How does longevity pay usually work?

How does longevity pay work at most airlines.

For example, if you are hired on june 1st do you start getting paid second year pay on june 1st the next year? Or does longevity pay not take effect until the following month?


What if you get hired on june 22nd? do you get first year pay up until the 22nd and second year pay for the rest of the month. And then for the rest of your career, you would have an oddball month with different pay rates during the month? (i.e., longevity increase)?

I know this is the Major's board but at AWAC, we start getting the following year's pay on our anniversary....so for me, last October 9th, I started getting 2nd year pay....Oct. 1st-8th were all 1st year pay

Depends on your company's agreement. Sometimes you start getting paid on your anniversary. Sometimes the first pay period after your anniversary. Sometimes the following month. You'll have to ask your union rep, or payroll.

I used to think that every airline increased your longevity on your anniversary date.

And then I found out that Skywest does not up you on your anniversary date.

So as far as I know ...your anniversary date is your anniversary date...unless you work at Skywest.

For sure I know that American Eagle, Island Air, and Alaska Air increases your longevity on your date of hire.

Everywhere Ive worked in the past you get it the month of your anniversary.

It kinda goes like this:

First year: Crap

Second year: almost double crap

Third year: Starting to like this airline thing!

Fourth year: A downturn in the economy, I must offer my piece to save the CEO's boat

Fifth year: furloughed and eating mac and cheese again, but getting unemployment so I can put butter in it

Sixth year: economy still sucks, there goes the butter

Seventh year: invited to start all over again.....at the bottom

So how does SkyWest do it then?

A skywest guy would have to tell you exactly but something like the first of the month after you make your anniversary. So...if you were hired on April 5 you would move to 2nd year pay on May 1....I think.
