How do you log your simulator time? Just Simulator time, or simulator and total time?
For a level D. Simulated instrument, or actual, or neither? Instruction received, or not?

This would be for Level C or D simulators.

just wondering how you guys are logging your training at Simuflight or ASA/Delta.

Thanks,

log it as simulator time, simulated instrument and dual given. I don't put it in total time, me time or anything else.

Agreed. It is never counted as any type of "flight time", and therefore should not be counted as total time.

This subject has come up before on this board. You can look here for additional input and opinions.

While I was a Simuflite, I saw a copy of a letter from the FAA saying it was legal in their eyes to log level D time as actual flight time. The idea being that if you could get your type in the sim without ever setting foot in the actual aircraft, it was good enough for them. However, I've never heard of an airline accepting sim time as flight time. If you plan on interviewing in the future, I suggest you log it as sim time.

You can log it as "total pilot time" not flight time I think. Not sure if logbooks differentiate pilot from flight time. I never log it as total, I'm lucky if I log it at all.

It depends on why you want to log it period. If it is to add to your total time for a job that currently requires more flight time than you have, let me advise you against it. As a former interviewer for an airline, we do not like to see it logged as total time. It should be logged as simulator time. I don't log it at all. I just completed over 30 hours in a 717 simulator and will not put any of it in my logbook as it is really no good to anybody but myself and my airline. The airline records it in your permanent training folder for all FAA legalities. If you are getting the chance to get some simulator time (a couple of hours) and are not using the time towards a future job, then I say log it how you want. Years down the road you can remember your time in that 727 sim or whatever however for interview purposes, leave it out or log it as simulator/flight sim time.

Dang, you reply fast. Thanks! Kind of picked an crazy time in the history of aviation to change airlines but I believe this was a good career move given the information I had in front of me at the time. I'll find out in 33 years.

Congrats on the job. It's good to see people moving on from Coex. Hopefully you were senior to some of my friends over there so they will get to move up a number. Take care.
