You have to know someone on the inside. Right now it would be next to impossible to get a Marketing job with any of the above since they are all laying off. Also the marketing, particularly sales jobs don't turn over very much. There is a demo job I know of out at raytheon if they haven't filled it yet. Tough nut to crack but once you're in I hear it rocks.
Most manufacuturers have independent sales offices located regionally. Typically, the aircraft dealers are not owned or operated by the OEM, but have contactual agreements with the them.
Selling airplanes does not mean flying airplanes. If you are away from your phone and office you are not going to sell anything.
Yes, you will do demo flights in small aircraft. Most of the time it is with pilots that have never flown the a/c before and you spend your time making sure that they look good, the airplane looks great, and the landing is the best they have ever made...all while keeping your cool when the potnetial buyer tries to show you how much they know and how it works much better when you do it their way.
You will deal with some great people; you will deal with some HUGE ego's; you can have as much fun as you want to and make good $$ if you are good at selling.
If this still sounds good, then start at the dealers MX shop looking for a job moving repaired airplanes back to customers, MX test flights, picking up broken airplanes, and helping around the sales office to move airplanes while the sales guys are on the phone and not wanting to fly.
Starting pay will be low. Sell more airplanes and your commision will go up......sell less airplanes and your job is on the line.
Requirements vary for each dealer. Minimum will be comm ME, Inst. with a 4 year degree.
PM me if you want more info...I did this for a while. I made some money, had lots of fun with the peope that I worked with, but left sales for a full time flying when one of my customers bought a larger aircraft and needed a crew.
Hello,
I was researching the same thing. New Piper Corp. and Cirrius are both hiring marketing folks. I think that they want sales experience and CFI ratings. Could be a possibility for some of you. Best of luck and let us know how you make out.
