I've been sending resumes out like mad to all of the climbto350, avianation, aviationcareer, etc job postings that I am qualified for. I know that they get hundreds of resumes.

So here is my question, how do I make my resume stand out from the masses or increase my chances of getting selected for an interview? My resume has been professionally done as was my cover letter.

I've been told that the best way to get a job is to walk in a resume or to network, but being a lower time pilot looking for an entry level king air position, it seems to me that the jobs in the area that I'm are few and far between and that I would increase my odds by applying to positions all over the US since I am able to relocate.

Are companies reluctant to interview someone who is not from the area that they are in?

Am I just wasting my time sending resumes out to the jobs that are posted on these boards?

thanks

I'm on my 5th avaition job... all from networking. As the saying goes...it's not what you know, it's who you bl..

I hope he has enough foward thinking to use some examples from the top ten and not the last ten!

Instead of bullets, I take some of those "racy" flightinfo.com avatars and put those instead. Works wonders!

Then at the interview, they find out, this punks reading flightinfo, call me a "bitter bastard pilot" and kick me the curb. ;)

Have a crap load more time so you can compete with the thousands of unemployed/furloughed pilots on the street

Try sending a resume which is spelling/grammatically error free. From a pilot, that oughta raise a few eyebrows. Albeit not as many as the ratemyboner.com link would.

Resume 101

  • ONE page
  • Objective should state name of company applying to
  • If you fax make sure contact info is NOT bold font and large enough that a 6 (6) dosen't look like an 8 or 5 or ...
  • Availability if used should read, "Immediate, 2 weeks preferred"
  • Include all employers regardless of job type. If you worked at Burger-rama while you worked on ratings it will show dedication to your chosen path
  • Personal should not be race, sex, weight, etc unless requested
  • List under Activities things you voluteer for in the community. If you are not involved in voluteer projects within the community, consider it!
  • Cover letter is a MUST
  • Thank you letter is always a plus after the interview
  • Know as much as you can about the company. You need to ask questions and not just sit there!

You could put a big pic from www.ratemyboner.com on the cover page....
So what does it take to get a 10?

Doesn't seem like there is much rhyme or reason to the rating scale. I guess size doesn't matter...........and who is doing the voting?

This is a good and valid question, Thanks for asking Keatts. What I normally do is spritz my resume with cologne such as English Leather or Obsession. It gets their attention real fast. Hope this helps.

Especially when you fax it! :)

Make sure you use the good resume paper.

I would call and make sure they get it, that could help you make a contact or two.

Have a pilot friend look it over to see if its decent, and or look at a pilot friends recent resume.
