I have heard of a few places that require pilots to pay for part of their Metro Type (SA-227), Part 135, Cargo. Some places make pilots pay 15-30% of their first year salary as Capt. Is something like this even fair or in the ballpark with what other places do to their pilots?????

Wondering what other people that have been Metro Typed have paid, or what contract they have agreed to, and where you worked, and about how many Metro's the company had, and if they did in house training?

Thanks

I know times are tough, but...

...but, you shouldn't be required to front *any portion* of your training costs.

If the company hired you then they must feel that you're qualified to perform adequately on the job.

They can do that by requiring all their applicants be typed and current...

...or...

...be willing to provide the training.

I mean, let's get one thing straight: YOU are making money for THEM.

But I've digressed from the original question. I was typed on the SA227 through an in house 121 training program at Peninsula Airways in Anchorage. At the time we had about five Metros. I did not pay for any portion of my training.

To answer your question: No, the scenario you describe is not fair, but unfortunately it may be considered "ballpark" given the lastest job market.

Do your best to find another gig.
Best wishes.

I didn't pay anything for mine, company trained me. If you're even considering it, why not get a type rating which is actually usefull. not many metros around these days. what companies want you to pay?

I did my training in-house with a company instructor at a Part 135 carrier. The training materials were of course pilfered and photocopied from Flight Safety publications.

The company did not have an APD at the time so my type ride, which was also my ATP was done with an FAA inspector out of Rapid City.

The company did not require any payment for any of the training. Salary started on the day the checkride was passed. Starting pay was $2500 per month with an overtime rate of $50.00 per hour for each hour over 50 per month.

Hope that helps a bit.
