I was wondering if anyone knows if Mesaba helps you find a crash pad if you are a new hire. If not, how did you guys and gals find yours with other airlines? What's a crash pad going for in MEM?

Cheers!

crashpads.com. about 25$ I think for a year subscription. You can search by airport. Airlines don't usually help you out unless you have a pilot website that my include some crashpads.

I have been at Mesaba over 3 yr still on Reserve, I average less than 30 hr a month flying. You need a good crashpad at Mesaba.

When I was new 6 of us newhires/upgrades got together and rented a 2 bedroom APT it was 130$ each per month, Yes you will need a car but spend 800-1000$ you can get a reliable crashpad car.

Now 3 of us rent from one of our Capts that had an extra bedroom 150$ a month, fridge, stove, washer, dryer, deck,BBQ Highspeed internet, a life. Don't even mess around with a hotel pad, there are many times when I will commute in and sit for 5-6 days never get used and commute back home. If I was stuck in a hotel room I would have shot myself by now.

Try posting on the ALPA mesaba messege board and I bet you'll find a good Pad.

Since you are in Memphis, check out any availability in pads run by NWA and FedEx pilots. They may have an opening, and maybe even a better price for you.

Thanks for the advice! I'll give it a shot.

BTW - how's that commute from MEM to MSP? I hear it'll put more gray hairs on your head real fast. Any advice on that?

Cheers

As a rule, commuting between the hubs at NW is a nightmare. Even commuting to the hubs from some NW pilot and FA bases is a nightmare. Thankfully, I live in base but know people who do commute. As mentioned before, the idea of posting a crashpad wanted post on the alpa boards is a good idea. I think the easiest base to commute to is CVG, as long as you don't live in MEM. Flights are frequent and usually empty.

Look for a bulletin board at wherever your training center is located or at the airport crewrooms (if you can gain access). These seem to be fairly common places to find crashpad ads. When I was a new hire I just got together with a bunch of other new hires to rent a house. Just ask around and you probably won't have too much trouble finding a place. Good luck.
