Hey Everyone,

Just wondering if any of you folks had some good suggestions of what to do to help out the ole' income. I have heard of Bartending and Pyramid Scheme's. Anything else... Thanks!

When my son was a first year FO at Comair in CVG, he worked very flexible hours at Sear's in the paint department, selling paint. They were very understanding about being on reserve, and there was never a problem if he called an said he could not make it in, as he was called up by Comair to fly. Of course, that was in 1997, and the ecconomy is in a lot different shape now than it was then...............but, who knows.

i hear you can make alot of money if you sell crack.

i plan to flip pizzas at the neighborhood pizza shack. no delivery. no clean up.....just makin pizzas...thats all. its a cool kinda of place that would let you come in and make pizzas and then go when you need to. perfect for the ole f/o

your question begs either jokes or candor....here's my .02 cents.....

what do you like to do? what i like doing, you may not, im currently selling aviation products by phone in between legs to turboprop owners. without it, i couldn't survive...

in two weeks i have an interview with a regional operating jets.... i also have some resumes out for some sales jobs such as pharmaceutical rep...they start in the high 40s with company car

my point is this business is quickly losing its luster, especially when you have come up with 15 different ways to prepare ramen noodles.

mow yards, down here in the south, it's 50 bucs a pop, it's fall cut some firewood, paint houses, clean gutters or wait tables,

if you like doing it, it won't be work

Good luck to you!!!

I'm right there with you... less than 35 days to go!!

Good luck on the Pharm rep job. I used to sell medical supplies, and a couple friends went on to Pharmaceuticals (sp?). At any rate, they got picked over roughly 300 other applicants. And this was 3-4 years ago with a solid economy.

But it's not all roses from what I hear. Get used to bigger egos than pilots and sitting idly in waiting rooms for 3-4 hours a day.

I got a suggestion or two...

I started at a regional 10 months ago with a wife and two kids. I'm teaching some ground school classes while on reserve at my old flight school for extra income.

I also started working on a Masters Degree so I could defer my student loans until I can afford them. Delta State University in Cleavland Mississippi has a Master of Commercial Aviation program that is completly done via distance learning and it only costs about $5,000. Federal student loans well exceed the cost of the program so you can use the loans with super low interest rates to pay off student loans or other debt with higher interest rates. PM me if you want more info.

thanks Labbats and chper...

any decent job willdo...plus i am home with the kids...my wife knows what being a single parent is....

the thing about this biz is tickets for coast to coast or carribean are suppose to top at 300 bucs.... southwest is there, jetblue...

now delta wants comair to take a pay cut.... watch these guys tell them to shove it.....american, united still charging 2 to 3 times on the long routes......

and the regionals....oh boy! i think i am gonna get an ol cessna and do a little instruction, 50 cheesburger runs, and some daytrips, hech, i might even wear hat underneath the headset and look like a B-17 pilot.

Get into the corporate network at the local airport (easier said than done, I know). Some of these guys will pay you $150-300/day to basicly sit and run the radios.

I could make $200 to sit as the legal IFR pilot in a Mooney on a day trip doing nothing but making sure the guy paying me didn't get lost and kept the blue side up.

I have buddys that still get paid $300/day to run radios and checklists in a KingAir, and legally they can do that cause the KingAir is single pilot, no "outside flying" issues.

Winter is coming, you could shovel snow.....

Lazy8s

you could throw bags on the ramp at your hub, on your days off...

Airpiraterob, I've been reading your posts for a while now. Dude, you crack me up with every one of them!!! I'd love to fly with you sometime but make sure you're sober so you can take the stick when I'm laughing too hard to see!!

I do courier work during the day, so I deliver bags of checks to myself, to fly to Cincinatti!!(?) The pay sucks and it's very stressful. Therefore it makes the flying that much better!! In just 2 more months I should have enough saved up to take my wife to El Chicos!!!

Try spending 6 weeks straight with him.....madness is sure to follow. Just kidding Rob...and don't think for 1 sec that BUF pizza is NY pizza...:D

As for how to make money when you aren't flying, look at your local hospital (that is of course if hospitals don't skeeve you out). You can make $10-15/hr even more with shift diff. I actually left flying to go back to work in the Laboratory for the steady paycheck and let the ills of the industry settle down. But if you are a hard worker and willing to learn, you can get a job in areas like security, patient registration, processing in the laboratory etc. Plus the skills you learn with that first job you can take anywhere and with experience work at any hospital in the US. Prior to flying, I became a Medical Technologist and have helped several people find jobs. 4 of my friends from flying now have part time jobs at the local hospital. Any questions, just pm me. I'd be happy to help
