I just talked with my sister, who is currently out in El Centro working as the Admin Officer for the Blue Angles and she told me that a Hornet crashed yesterday and the pilot was killed. Does anybody have any info on this? It was not a Blue Angel that crashed. She said it was a squadron a/c that was doing carrier quals, and he crashed 5 miles from El Centro.

I searched the around the El Centro newspapers and couldn't find anything on it.

Lt. Cmdr. Frank Carl Wittwer, 35, died Wednesday night when his F/A-18C Hornet went down during a routine training mission near Naval Air Station El Centro, said Dennis McGrath, a spokesman for Naval Air Station Lemoore in Central California, where Wittwer's squadron is based. Wittwer had been in Strike Fighter Squadron 97 about nine months, he said.
