Any info on upcoming class dates, where new hires might be placed, etc?? Just got called for an interview next month!!:D

sounds like 12 or so a month for a while.

Some of the vacancies to be filled will no doubt be DEN in the RJ. Otherwise either PDX or SEA (as those are the only two left after DEN).

We seem to be doing more hiring than what is needed for the current fleet plan, so I am not certain as to what may or not be happening. Best of luck.

Horizon is an awesome company. People love coming to work and I have not heard pilots cry about working there except for the upgrade times. I currently live on the east coast and try to stay abreast of what's happening with you all in the northwest.

Any update on future plans (a/c acquisition, fleet plans, expansions, etc.) as I plan on at least meeting your minimums by summer to apply.

Good luck DKWID and if you don't mind pm me afterwards and let me know how things went. By the way, what were you times/experience when you got the call? ;)

Ditto, That'd be my only gripe. Other than that this is an awsome company and I love coming to work. I thought we stopped hiring for DEN already but they're still going?? I'm surprised. Mabye Frontier is growing like a weed and they want us to do more flying for them but it just hasn't been announced??

Additional Info?

Could someone let me know what the competitve times are and who to contact?

I looked on their website and found nothing about current hiring. I have the same questions as a poster...can you help with info on where to send the resume and what the times are?
Thanks

Yeah, I'd be curious to get some info about Horizon. Where and who to send the resume to? Pay scales, schedules, etc? Any responses from real-life Horizon pilots would be great.

Awesome company to work for? That's the last thing I would say about Horizon. Yes, the people that work here are great, but I wouldn't say I love coming to work here. In fact, its about burnt me out of the whole flying thing and I wouldn't do it again. Unless you've worked here, don't say its an awesome place to to work. If you think starting out at a job with a college degree that pays in the 20k range is great, then you are very blind my friend. I'm at 5 yrs seniority and only get 13 days off in a 35 day bid. Compare that to other regionals. Also, this company doesn't allow you as an FO to transition to other aircraft without taking a huge paycut and seat lock. Is that a great company thing? There have been several pilots (captains and FO's) that have quit to do other non-aviation jobs because they are so unhappy here. The company tries to advertise that everyone is so happy here, but it's not true. I wouldn't recommend coming here to anyone. Just my 2 cents worth. And upgrade, over 4 1/2 to hold SEA in the Dash and yes DEN went to about 5 1/2 yrs, but you have to realize that before that opened, it was about 13 yrs to be very junior in the Jet.

I am currently going through FO training on the RJ. I will be going to denver in a couple months and hopefully be there quite a while.
The Pro of this company are many.. the Cons are very few. Like others who posted before is that the upgrade time is a while however, if you are patient and willing to wait it out it could be a very very good deal.
I plan on making my home with Horizon and therefore I don't mind waiting 6 years for a captains spot. The pay is good and the equipment is top of the line in all aspects.

Hope this helps
If you have any questions
You can IM me

Just a little of advise... Wait till you are done with training and on line for a few years before you make any decisions to stay at any regional for life.

Yeah,

It's all warm and fuzzy in training and you think its great, but you'll be getting your turn soon. Just wait till screw scheduling gets a hold of you a few times and those days off you thought you were getting are gone. Another new hire with blinders on.

Crew scheduling getting you on your days off? How's that work??? If they aren't offering you open time for extra cash then why are you answering the phone? I just can't see how that's possible. Please elaborate if I'm wrong. Don't mean to be rude or anything, but you sound like your job is the worst one on the planet. Just be glad you don't work for lakes or somebody like them. If you hate your job so much, then quit. I'm sure the guys under you wouldn't mind.

Yeah, just don't answer your phone. My company blocks the caller ID (as I'm sure most others do) when they call. They only have my cell number, and when they call, they are the only ones that ever show up as "unavalible" on the phone, so they have their own "caller ID" when they call me. Works just fine, and in 4 1/2 years, I have never once been junior manned. Now if they get you while you are on duty with a message on the release (FO call crew scheduling, etc), that might be a different story. However, I have occasionally used the defense that a change to my schedule is not of an operational nature for that particular flight, and there is no business for a message of that nature to be on the flight release. Thats a shaky argument though, and if you're lucky (and off probation) you might be able to bully a new scheduler out of it (it has only worked once for me, probably never again)...

I would have to agree with what qxpilot is saying about QX. It is not the end all regional airline. It is better than most, worse than a few but a great place to get your foot in the door I suppose. Send a resume to

Horizon Air Flight Ops
Attn: LaMar Haugaard (that is the correct spelling)
8070 NE Airtrans Way
Portland, OR 97218

As with any company, always better to have your amigo working here walk in your resume, or to have claimed residency in Grand Forks, ND for 4 yrs sometime in the past. LaMar is an alum.

Starting pay is around 25k/yr I believe.

Horizon is not that bad of a place to work. I have never had to work on my day off, except for that last winter storm we had when PDX was closed for 2 days, and I was stuck at an outstation. The only thing that is bad about it is the upgrade, and the schedules need to get better. But the F/O pay is good, the equipment is great, and I love the pacific northwest. I have a feeling that qxpilot would complain no matter where he/she showed up to work. Horizon is not as bad as qxpilot says it is (part of the 10% that just can't be happy), but it is not as rosy as the new hire going to Denver says either, but not too far off.

As far as getting an interview, I have no idea what the trick is. Just send it in, you may get lucky. And ofcourse, if you are a UND grad, you have a very good chance of getting an invterview.
