I am wondering about cockpit noise of the Q400's in relation to headsets. I wanna dump my Dave Clarks and brush the dust off a pair of Telex 750's. Is this a viable option? I've sat up front on a CRJ and do not think they are all that loud, is it comparable? I'm coming from a Saab so the noise is all relative.

Thanks in advance.

I would guess your Cologan. First off, I am sorry that your gonna fly that plane for those sad rates.

Now to answer your question, you can dump the DC for the Telex.

The sad rates are only half of it. The total lack of any kind of beneficial work rules are also putting big nails in this profession's coffin.

Telex all the way. Anyone wiling to fly a Q400 for Colgan rates deserves to have their hearing damaged.

I understand where everybody's comming from. The payrates are enough to entice but it's still a slap to the face. The b!tch of it all is I am still at the same base so I don't have to worry about a crashpad since I'm a Live in. If Ihad to go to EWR this question would not have been posted. I appreciate the responses and to all the PDT pilots I wish ya'll the best. I have friends over there and hope ya'll can set the bar for Q400 payrates. Good Luck!

We just voted on the rates and it passed. They aren't as good as Horizons, but they are just about the same as Compass on the E-175.

Good Luck over there. I can say it makes life easier when you can live in base.

Our Dash 8 300's are pretty quiet up front. On long flights over an hour, many of us take our headsets off and just use the planes speakers.

Now the Q400 is fast, so I would guess you would get a bunch more wind noise up front.

Get bored over at Cologan get over to Piedmont. We are hiring and upgrading like mad right now. 20 Captains posted for Jan. and 10 for Feb. They are looking at upgrading 100 pilots this year.

Flowthru isn't finalized yet. But with the Pref. Hiring we have already had about 30-40 hired at Airways.

After years and years its nice to see some movement here.

I heard that they can't find spots to park the Q in EWR, is that true? Supposedly it has a footprint almost as big as a 737.

So they got rid of the landing gear on the Q400's and installed Feet! Awesome!!!!

The Q400's foot print is as bigger as a 700 37. We ran into the same problem at QX and reduced the number of spots for parking.

Since when do pilots care how much parking there is? Just show up and fly the Q400 when your schedule says. Oh yeah, and make below average money doing it with no commuter policy or decent work rules.

In the sim they were really big on us starting out of the gate 90 area, if that makes since. From what I've heard we will be getting mainline service in EWR.

The answer is 750s with some comfortable ear plugs underneath and the volume turned up a bit.

What are they going to do with it once it gets there? Start flying it around the country? Who's flying it in? Our pilots or Bombardier's?

Ours, the big wigs.

MX gets ahold of it first to finish up some conformity things, F/A training, then hopefully we will get some hands on before proving runs start so we can figure it out and not look like asses.
