Fact is, if there is nothing in an existing CBA to prevent management opening a foreign crew base (as is the case with many contracts), then your options are somewhat limited when it comes to opposing it or bargaining for favourable LOA`s etc.

That's why it should be IN a CBA to begin with. HKG may be ok for a short while, but at least anyone assigned there should have a huge upward cost of living adjustment borne by Fred.

I agree Draginass, however most existing CBA`s did not foresee or address the foreign base scenario. Now the cat is out of the bag, the horse has bolted and the genie has left the bottle.

It's a common perception that the union protection should start first to make the senior guys cushy, i.e. top down.

You really protect the profession from the bottom up by protecting the bottom guys from being abused with rotten deals like this HGK base. Unfortunately none of the airline unions "get it" and that one reason why most pilot unions are "owned" by the senior managers.

That's so well said. If you protect the most junior that sends so many messages to management that give us leverage.

I only hope that you and I remember that when we're senior and hold positions of power.

Btw- I had heard that Paris would go junior to Hong Kong b/c it's narrow-body flying. Is this not true?
Thanks for your answers.
