Hello all,

For hopeful interview information, I'd like to learn more about the Astra and how it developed from the Jet Commander (I think?). How many different Astra models have been manufactured and do they require different types? From what I've learned thus far, it seems to be a great performer. Is there a good reference that someone might point me towards to learn more? The Gulfstream web site didn't give as much info as I'd like.

Thanks and fly safe.

Sorry to be short, but I'm late for a meeting. As for your questions, yes the Jet Commander is a G100's grandfather. Here's the very short history.

In ~1963 Rockwell developed and made the model 1121 Jet Commander, a few years later Rockwell sold the design to Israeli Aircraft Industries (IAI), they renamed it Jet Commodore IA1121. IAI then developed a longer bigger version called the Westwind, initially IAI put GE-610-9 engines on it, and this is called an IA1123. Shortly there after IAI put Garrett TFE731 engines on the Westwind and this became known as the Westwind I or IA1124. In the 80's IAI redesigned the wing to give it more lift and better performance; this caused winglets and became known as the Westwind 2, IA1124A. In the late 80's IAI redesigned the Westwind and put the wing below the fuselage made it a little bigger and increased its range a little more, this became the Astra IA1125. Little more changes and you have an Astra SP and SPX. A couple of years ago IAI developed the Galaxy (IA1126), a new design. Then last year Gulfstream bought the IAI airplanes from Galaxy aerospace in Fort Worth. Gulfstream renamed the Astras SPX's to G100's and the Galaxy's to G200's.

Here are the aircraft types and Flight plan ID's:
IA1121 Jet Commander; JCOM
IA1121A, B Jet Commander, Jet Commode; JCOM
IA1123 Westwind; JCOM
IA1124 Westwind; WW24
IA1124A Westwind 2; WW24
IA1125 Astra; Astra SP, Astra SPX, G100; ASTR
IA1126 Galaxy, G200; GALX

The IAJET type lets you fly the following: IA1121, IA1121A, IA1121B, IA1123, IA1124, and IA1124A.

I'm not sure about the Astra and Galaxy types, I'm pretty sure they are separate types with the ASTR type letting you fly the Astra, Astra SP, Astra SPX, G100. The GALX type lets you fly the Galaxy and G200.

I'm sure I made some mistakes in this post, but it's about 95% accurate and that's pretty **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** good when you have to be at a meeting in 5 minutes.

Good luck with the interview!

I believe the only "G100" is the ASTRA SPX.
The "G200" is the Galaxy.

I guess owners of Astras and Galaxys can now brag on the golf course about their "Gulfstream"....

yeah....far from....
