I am 24 years old, currently instructing IFT (Intro to Flight Training) for the Air Force Academy in CO Springs. I have about 1000 hours total flight time and a BS in Aero Science from a well-known aviation school. Realistically, should the HIANG need 15 drivers in the future, what are my chances? I know I interview well, but I am trying to determine whether or not I am wasting my time by even applying. I have heard it is **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** near impossible to get a guard slot as a civilian with no prior military experience.

Thank you much,
B

Not sure if your talking about this years Hawaii board but you already miss the cut off. I know a guy in the unit (non-pilot) and this was the info he gave me a few months ago. Oh, and they interviewed for 6-7 slots, but not just for F-15's. Its 6-7 because they have 2 for each airframe. Typically the eagle slots go to "in-house" guys, this I have heard from more then one source. I'm not saying don't apply, sure why not, just giving you the scoop I got on that unit.

Near impossible to get a slot off the street? I dont think so! Not in general. You will find plenty of off the street folks who have been picked up, its all about your dedication to getting a slot, and look at other units not just one.

If you're a patch wearin' eagle driver current and qualified in the jet and your last name is Inouye, I'd say your chances are good.

OR, you can have a "surf off" with some of the "Bruddahs" in the HIANG heavy squadrons waiting for the next senior "Mai Tai" to paddle into the sunset so they can transition over :D

How is the IFT program working out from your perspective? I am hearing a lot of talk about what is going on down at the airfield, and a lot of it is not positive. Then again, cadets are famous for whining about every little thing... I am not elligible to take IFT
