Forgive my ignorance on this subject, but I have noticed that the HF radio can be operated in the following modes:
UV - Upper sideband voice
LV - Lower sideband voice
AM - Amplitude modulated
UD - Upper sideband data
LD - Lower sideband data
CW - Continuous wave

The Honeywell manual states these as operating modes but gives no description or instruction on when a particular mode would be used. UV is the default and I have never had a problem communicating going to Europe, Asia, or Hawaii.
My question is: has anybody used these other modes, especially the LV, AM, or CW, and in what circumstances? I get the data modes but the others I am not sure about.

Thanks in advance...

I don't think you'll be using CW ._._ ._ _ these days. As a amateur radio operator code is going to the wayside.

As for the upper and lower ends of the band. I've only used them with my home HF rig never in the airplane.
