I am still trying to find out if HF is needed for bermuda. Also does the domestic RVSM LOA cover this route?

Flew into bermuda two weeks ago from Honduras and from memory we spoke to New York on HF.

As for the RVSM I can't help you there.

Last trip out there I recall needing the HF. Bermuda RVSM is covered under the Atlantic RVSM.

I am confident HF is required. Like Ultrarunner said...I believe Bermuda is covered under the WATRS area.

Fly Safe!

It is WATRS airspace. HF is used, I am not sure if it is required. I did a trip that took me over Bermuda and our selcal wouldnt work, so we just maintained listening watch. Annoying yes, but it worked.

Yep you need HF for going there, we did it in a hawker w/o rvsm so it was at FL280 from CHS. Bee there twice in the last couple of years. And we still don't have rvsm!

It's expensive there, it cost around $13 for a hamburger/coke.

Yes, it is required. If you look in your jeppesen books under ICAO regs you will find a section that specifically states that HF is REQUIRED for the airspace that you transverse flying to Bermuda from the states.

The RVSM issue

Contact your local FSDO for clarification, but as it was explained to me there is no such thing as a "domestic LOA for RVSM". You are either RVSM compliant or not. It's an internationally recognized LOA. Once again, that's how I understood my friendly POI's explination of it. Good luck and enjoy Bermuda!

Sure do... I'm assuming you're large and turbine powered. If so, see Part 91, Subpart F for required survival gear. If you're 135 you'll still need one but you have your own requirements list under that part.
