I have been doing a search on AMF and I cannot find this anywhere. Where do most of you go fly after AMF? (121 Major or regional, other 135, Corp., Frac.) If major or regional which one? I had a friend washout of there on the Lance. Is this normal or was he just weak? How is the upgrade training and do they get you through it. It is my understanding that as long as you know the flows and systems you should be off to a good start but thats anywhere.

Thanks Props

Propsfullfwd,

In regards to washing out in training it does happen but I would say that washing out in the Lance is not too common, like you said know the flows and you should be all right, a bit of study and prep go a long way.

During my training experience the hardest thing for me is learning to do things the AMF way. My previous flight instructor background required me to learn procedures on somebody else's terms and timetable.

As far as career progression there are two basic directions that AMF pilots gravitate to: The lower seniority pilots hang around for six months to a year grab some pistion time and move on to a regional (SkyWest hs hired a S**tload of our pilots).

The more senior pilots have taken the turbine upgrades (99,1900,Metro etc) build the 1000 turbine PIC and move to a fractional, national or major. During the hiring binge of 1999-2000 we lost at least 10 pilots to SWA, some to Delta, United, AA, Alaska even UPS and Fedex, The fractionals picked up quite a few as well.

In todays market however pickings are slim so we just wait for thing to turn around as they are slowly doing, hope this helps.

The main reason that people wash out at AMF is that they have a poor instrument scan. I agree that learning to fly "the Ameriflight way" is very important as well, so studying flows and calls is extremely important; sometimes the flows don't make perfect sense for the plane that you start in, but doing them right makes the transition into the larger planes pretty simple by comparison, so it's worth the difficulty at the beginning.

As for jobs after AMF -- take your pick. If you can do this, especially through the metro or brasilia, you can do anything, and the regionals, majors, fractionals, etc. know it.
