A friend of the family called last night asking for help. Their son was severely injured in a car accident in Rome, Italy recently. They would like to know the best way to get him home as his injuries are so severe that he can't safely make the trip on a commercial flight. They are interested in chartering a plane and are not sure who to contact or how to proceed.

Do any of you have information or ideas?

Thanks

(Posted on the general board, too)

Check out The Air Charter Guide and their daily e-mail of deadheading aircraft, which can be chartered at a pretty good discounted rate, since they have to ferry in any case. Here's the official skinny off their website:

The Charter Xchange Daily is a daily, opt-in HTML newsletter containing charter industry news and a listing of imminent empty legs. The newsletter is distributed each morning to over 3,500 charter industry members. This group consists primarily of employees of charter operators, brokers, corporate flight departments and travel agencies.

The above can be found at http://www.guides.com/public/products/cxdaily.asp

Good luck.

If an Air Ambulance is needed, try http://www.travel-care.com/ or Air Charter Guide. If not - if it is for pure comfort level - try a regular charter and be prepared for a big price tag (either way) Insurance may cover some Air Ambulance depending on circumstances. I don't know about about the Angel Flight bit. How do you qualify for an Angel Flight? Being oversees would probably mean a lengthy wait.
