I have a quick question:

What jobs are there out there for a helicopter pilot? I have about 1300 helo hours, and one year left in the Navy. Just got rejected by the Coast Guard due to my age (must be less than 33 by Sep 05- my 33rd is 30 Sep 05).

Was just wondering what my options are.

Thanks.

Las Vegas - Grand Canyon tours. If you want to make the jump to fixed-wing ME turbine, Scenic Airlines is very helo pilot friendly.

Scenic: http://www.scenicops.com/scenicpilot/index.htm

Some of the helo companies are Maverick, Papillion,Silver State. Look in the Vegas yellow pages for the rest. I don't have any contact numbers or web sites.

The other multi-engine turbine fixed wing operators are Grand Canyon Airlines at Grand Canyon National Airport and Vision at North Las Vegas. Vision is PFT and a very shady palce to work (do a search on this board). GCA is small and more difficult to get hired at.

There is also King out of Henderson Airport. They are psiton with C207s and C402s. Also kind of shady, especially in the maintenance department. We have many former King guys at Scenic that feel good to have survived with their bodies and licenses intact.

Best time to try and get hired is Feb/Mar as everyone is gearing up for the summer. But we do have 12 new hires in training at Scenic now with rumors of another class to follow.

Scenic FO pay is not great, but it is a way to start building ME trubine. Also the upgrade to Captain is usually around 9 months, maybe as few as 6 months. Captain pay is also not great, but livable. It's the quickest path to ME turbine PIC I know of - especially for a helo guy with little fixed-wing experience.

I just found this for a life flight pilot.Lots of locations thought it might be helpful. The website is airmethods.com and click on human resources. Also check out jsfirm.com they have tons of listings.Good luck

I know guys that have gotten ratings at ALL-ATPS, then worked for them (mostly twin time) and then got on with a regional. You will make more money flying out to the oil rigs for Air Log or whoever. Lots of Nam dudes retiring from helos....Hooker77

I have seen that aptap sight... neat. My girlfriend is applying for an Army Warrent slot, so she goes there alot.

I was looking for helo jobs in the Military vain... ie Customs, ets...

Thanks.

I would recommend being dual rated. US Customs has two types of pilots. Aircraft pilots (helo and fixed wing) and airplane pilots. You need to have your airplane ratings as well. Several people in my unit are Customs guys during the week.

As mentioned before, check aptap.org. Lots of good information there. Many Customs pilots to talk to.

I run a helo to fixed wing transition program for military pilots. If you are interested in getting your fixed wing ratings from another helo pilot, PM me and I'll give you more info. You can use your VA benefits as well.

Try offshore

PHI and Offshore Logistics (Air Log) are both hiring. Pay sucks but that is the industry.

Warrior,

What is the absolute age cutoff for pilots in the Army? I am an enlisted guy in the Air Guard and also a regional pilot. I also crewed the AH-64 back in the late 80's! Sweet bird.
