Can anyone suggest some specific training manuals, texts, videos, DVD, etc for preparing for the Helicopter Instrument Rating and the Helicopter CFII?

Also, have any of you guys gotten the "Double i" before the aircraft (any aircraft) instructor rating? The outfit I work for wants me to get my Helicopter Instrument Rating, then my Helo "double i" immediately afterwards, and will pay for me to get them. But they care not about me having the basic CFI-Rotorcraft/Helo Rating. (I'm already a CFI Airplane & Instruments.)

Any pointers, or tips appreciated.

I'd say for instrument-specific training, the FAA's Instrument Flying Handbook and the new Instrument Procedures Handbook are good because they both have helicopter sections. Otherwise, get into your favorite FAR because instrument flying is instrument flying.

Best of luck!

Initial CFI certification as a CFI-I

My initial instructor certification was as a CFI-I. This was nearly nineteen years ago. The only thing I recall really well is the emphasis my examiner placed on using FAA pubs as the source of my presentation. I had ridden with the same examiner for my instrument rating a few months before and for my Commercial before that.

For you, a helicopter CFI-I would be an add-on and, I would imagine, not be that much of problem if you're fresh off your rating ride. Just be prepared to draw up a lesson plan and to answer some FOI questions because a great number of examiners still test on the FOI, even for add-on applicants. Your company's willingness to train you on on its nickel is an added plus.

Good luck with your helo training.

Agree, since this is not an initial CFI rating, just an add-on, it should be pretty straight forward.
