What headsets are common in the fractional business? I'm coming from the turboprop world, where bigger is better and ANR is king. Is that all necessary in a Citation/Hawker/Falcon/Gulfstream?

At NetJets, most of the fleets have Telex 750's assigned to them. The Hawker 400XP fleet, though, has Telex 850's assigned to them. I actually bought a pair of the 850's for myself because I wanted ANR without having to deal with batteries. I find the 850 works well for me in the Ultra/Encore.

I have noticed several others that I've flown have brought their own headsets, ranging from various ANR units (Sennheiser, Bose) to the classic, passive David Clarks. A few people will even use the stock 750's but with some foam ear plugs underneath.

To the folks flying the Excel/XLS, how much windscreen noise do you experience in the cockpit? I've flown the 2000 (very quiet with great soundproofing) and the CE560 (pretty loud )...the 560 needs a good headset..how about the Excel? And the windscreen is heated I've read...no more fogging on humid days! Also, what are the differences between the XL and XLS?
Thanks.

Anyone try and use the molded earpiece Plantronics?

Yeah but it wasnt very effective in the Hawker and not very comfortable on those long legs. So many of the furnished headsets kept disappearing off the airplanes that I finally bit the bullet and bought the current Bose aviation headset. Its a big initial investment (mine cost about $900.00) but its very light and comfortable and the noise reduction is superb :)

Beatrix - thanks for the reply. What model did you buy? There is nothing worse than an a/c that has hammered headsets and you can't get a part before the flight. All I have are the D/C's - too heavy I think and my boom mike, comfort...Might be time to invest in a new pair.

BTW - Why do we call it a pair? And why headsets as compared to headset? Hmmmmnnnnn????

(Note to self - stop thinking and study the FAR's....)

Oh man, dont do that. One of the best benefits of being a pilot is going deaf... The wife can blah-blah-blah all she wants and you just keep watching TV!!

Now if you bought the ANR for "home use" then thats a different story

At CitationShares, all of our planes are equipped with the Bose headsets. I think the are awesome and sure beat any of the headsets I've ever worn.

Baja-the number on the little switch box is AHX-32-01. Thats probably the model #...dont carry the owners manual on the road but Ive only had it for about 6 months so its probably the newest model...personally I dont use the plural myself but its probably something similar to the "shes a good ship" thing :)
