I'm looking at purchasing a headset for the CRJ. Could someone help me with what type of headset works the best. Does Sennheiser make a good product? I've been looking on ebay and have found some pretty good deals... if anyone has purchased a headset off ebay, how was your experience?

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks
:)

Telex 5x5, with a molded ear piece that you can order from any hearing aid shop.

It's a very loud airplane -- louder than any other jet i've ever flown, especially at low altitudes and high speeds. Once your hearing is gone, its gone -- you cant get it back.

Spend the extra dough (its a tax deduction) and buy some very good noise cancelling headsets with bost active and passive noise reduction.

I have bought off of E-bay with no hassel.. Gotten some good prices on great equipment...

I have tried a few different headsets and found the sennheiser to be one of the better of the bunch. I have also tried and liked Telex 850's....

If your intrested in sennheiser, goto ALPA's "mall" and click on the sennheiser link. They will give you some decent pricing and I think 10 months financing (same as cash). It works out to like $40 a month which a regional FO could afford. Lastly, while they only show 4 headsets for offer, you can get any headset at the price break and payment plan.

I would not buy an ANR headset for a jet. Most of the noise is high-freq wind noise, and ANR is not very effective for that...I have tried (lots of hiss). For props, ANR wins hands down because it is best at low-freq prop noise.

For prop, go with ANR
For jet, go with passive

Mmmmmm.... Bose.

I have worn my BOSE in both the CRJ and the 328 and had no problems. In my opinion they work just fine for eliminating the high-freq noise. So quiet you'll think you're in a library...

Personal experience, EBay is a good deal, even if the headset needs some work. I bought my series X in a pawn shop a few years ago. The left ear wasn't working, sent them in, and in two weeks had them back with the electronics in both earcups replaced for NO charge! Good folks up there in MA.

Hey Furloughed, you ever ride up front in the flying lawn-dart? When I jumpseat with you guys it sounds like a library up there in comparison:D (**CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** left-over turboprop nose.......)
