Has anyone used a head hunter?
How does the interview work and what is involved?
Does the company interview you or do they trust the head hunter?
Do they get paid by the company or you?
Any info would be great.

thanks

The head hunter will interview you first, then two or three interviews with the company.

The head hunter gets paid by the COMPANY if they're legit. A good company will reimburse your travel expenses to/from the company interview.

Which head hunter are you refering to?

A few years back, I aquired a job through a Head Hunter.

It was with one of the largest companies in the world, flying a G-IV. Overall, I had a very good experience. The company paid the costs. I paid for nothing. I contacted them because I saw an add for a pilot position in my local area on their website. I interviewed with them. Unfortunately, the position was filled before I even had a chance. However, my information remained on file with them. About 6 months later, they called me for another position that was available in my local area. Since they already had my profile, they arranged for me to interview with the flight department. Shortly after I was hired. I believe the company I went to work for paid 25% of my first year salary to the head hunter.

The Head Hunter company I used was called Jet Professionals (JPI). Their website is www.jet-professionals.com. Not too many jobs listed now, but keep checking.

Good Luck,
JetPilot500

head hunter

do not use turner group services,

Or do not give them your credit card or check, use money orders ONLY.

They charged me for a job I didn't get.

Do not use Turner Group Services ...

I will second that ... I know a few people that used this "headhunter" firm. It's basically a sham. Don't waste the time or effort with these people.

One step away from selling used Chevy's

Tread very cautiously around headhunters

These are some known and unknown facts about their M.O.'s and way of thinking:

Once you send in a resume it becomes their property and they can choose to show it or NOT show it to prospetive clients (job holding clients)

The "Warm Body Syndrome"
They send in unqualified candidates (you) just to throw more candidates in the mix to show clients they have a number of candidates for the postion even though the HH has already one guy he knows will get the job.

How HH justify their fees to client companies:
Clients pay them a fee to do all of the busy work to find the guys that match the qualifications. This fee pays for HH's to do the job so the clients dont have to. This takes the work away so the clients dont have to hire someone themselves to do the job. Therefore the HH fills in for this position that doesnt exsist at the client company. Therefore the fee is taken by the HH from the client company for a job done.
You should never pay a "fee" for a HH to find you a job!
Especially with the internet's exsistance!

"The HH owns the rights to you"
A company cannot hire you if you have already sent your information to a head hunter that that company is dealing with.
For instance:
If GE uses HH ABC to find Job A, and HH already has your resume for something in the past, you cannot get a job with GE unless it goes thru that HH, and he may not place your info with GE b/c he has someone else for the job already.
If you find out about the job through another source GE cannot hire you unless it thru this head hunter (its all in these contracts they have with client companies)

It gets really sticky and complicated.

Dont forget that copmpanies dont need to use headhunters in this job environment.

Although they've changed out all the people there, I also had a good experience with JPI. Got my latest job through them (and with some help of a member here). What I took away from the experience is that once they put you in front of the client company its up to you to get the deal closed.

I don't think this is true in all cases. I agree you have to be careful but the head hunter only "owns you" if they bring the client company and applicant together.
