The reality appears to be Alaska simply wants to code share inter-island.

Sorry, I just got a Mac computer and I guess I don't know how to cut and paste yet. But the article and other sources have said just that ALK is interested in code sharing inter-island with HAL.

As to the hiring, who knows what will happen to the economy, but Hawaiian has some very definent expansion plans. That said, anything can happen, they have a fair amount of cash to ride out whatever happens, but no one is 100% safe.
