Hawaiian Airlines Announces Wide-Body Fleet ExpansionHONOLULU, Feb. 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --

Hawaiian Airlines (Amex: HA; PCX) announced today that it has signed letters of intent to acquire four additional Boeing 767-300 aircraft, which will bring its long-haul fleet to a total of 18 of the wide-body aircraft. The company expects to introduce these aircraft into service after necessary modification work has been completed. The expected dates of introduction and the additional services these aircraft will operate will be announced at a later date.

"This expansion is great news for our company, our employees -- especially those we will be able to recall from furlough -- and for Hawaii tourism," said Mark Dunkerley, president and chief executive officer.
The four 767-300 aircraft Hawaiian will acquire were previously operated by Delta Airlines, which rejected its leases on the aircraft in conjunction with its ongoing Chapter 11 reorganization. Each will be overhauled and outfitted in Hawaiian's standard interior configuration, including 18 seats in First Class and 242 seats in Coach. The letters of intent are subject to certain closing conditions.

Interesting details.

Hawaiian Airlines (Honolulu) has signed a letter of intent (LOI) to acquire four ex-Delta Boeing 767-300s that were rejected as part of Delta's bankruptcy hearings. This will bring the total to 18. The ex-Delta aircraft are not ER models so they will not be operated on the Sydney route. One aircraft will become a spare aircraft. The ex-Delta aircraft are also powered by GE engines and will be different from the other Pratt & Whitney powered 767-300s in the Hawaiian fleet.
 
Well since Delta has sliced and diced their Hawaiian routes over the years....guess they won't be needing the 763's.

The 767's from Delta were used on their domestic routes, not the trans-pacific/atlantic. They supposedly will be sent to boeing, who will convert the aircraft into EM models (basically and ER from my understanding).

EM doesn't stand for Extra Mileage, does it? Either way, what's the limitations on the 300 (non-ER) going to and from the West Coast?

I don't think you can fly anywhere from the islands to the mainland unless you have 180 ETOPS approval period. You could spend the money and a lot of it at that, to increase the MTOGW, fuel capacity, if needed, fuel dump capability, HMG, etc, etc., but it would cost a fortune.

You are correct sir! Its sad to see airplanes leave the fleet. More and more ER aircraft are being used for int'l expansion instead of domestic.

From my undrestanding these 767-300 do not have:

1. ADG
2. HDG
3. ETOPS APU specs

Going price for ER's is at a primium right now. Even with the high cost of the mods these are still cheaper than ER's.

Fuel capacity is about in the 110,000-120,000 range (adequate for West Coast ops).
We are gutting the interiors and installing new ones.
Any Delta guys out there varify this?

Hawaiian Airlines made the right decision picking up these Delta Birds. They are going to get a good return on thier investment.
