JO says he can loose money for 5 years and still be okay with his Hawaii operation. Are HAL and AQ able to do that too? Good Luck
Yep, that's not a good business plan unless you only want to kill the competition. JO's legitimizing his scumbagness.

"With these low fares, we can go a long time," said Jonathan Ornstein, chief executive officer of Phoenix-based Mesa. "Even if we fly empty, we could fly five years on the profits the rest of our company makes in one year."

From their spectacular new website. Mesa is saying they will be using 54 (hey thats an ALOHA gate WTF!!) through 61. Any Hawaiian guys got anything to comment on this?

good luck! Those gates are tied up all day long!!! I just think Mr.O is just trying to piss us off. They haven't even signed thier leases yet??? About the only place I see them going is the commuter terminal-and that's already pretty crowded now with island Air's new Dash 8's.

I have said it before, mesa makes their millions in creating fear and hostility. They know no other way. Running a legit operation based on customer loyalty is something mesa has never done. When there is no more fear to peddle mesa will finally go away, but that day may be far away, it may never come, business seems pretty good these days in hustling fear.

There is only way to stop a rabid dog.

And that's going to get much more congested with the Q400s and Mokulele as well as PW and Alpine still muddling around.

Exactly. I bet the share holders and BOD cringed when they saw that statement.

sure, all that revenue from the rest of mesa will allow him to lose money for many years, but will his shareholders let him?

.

Why does everybody think that Mesa's shareholders/BOD are at odds with JO.

You know how long JO has been running Mesa. His shareholders/BOD must love him, they are probably somewhat like minded. They probably like his type of business strategies. This is bussiness, cut throat, WAR. The BOD likes it!

Another two questions for the Mesa/Go Hawaii operation:

1. How will the CRJ withstand the constant stresses - numerous daily t/o and landings, exposure to warm, moist, salty air, maintenance issues that will arise. Can the CRJ do it? Initially yes - long term - not really. My former company, Independence, tried flying the wings off the CRJs when we started ~ summer 04, but eventually the planes started having a lot of recurring problems that played havoc with things. Hawaiian and Aloha have years of experience in the unique HI aviation market - can Mesa do it without pissing off their customers?

2. My first question sort of leads into my second- fuel burn and seat capacity issues aside, is the CRJ suited to the intra-Hawaiian market? Of the four CRJs Mesa is pulling for the HI operation - what is their status? Are they older, tired CRJs that have been yanked off the America West Express schedule. I'd say so, since Mesa can more efficiently employ a CRJ 900 (a more logical aircraft for Go) in one of their numerous codeshare systems. Will being 'older' plague the CRJs, whose shelf life isn't nearly that of a Boeing, with operational problems?

I don't think that the share holders are at odds with JO. I do think that they would have a problem with JO flying empty aircraft in Hawaii, losing money consistently. He was quoted as saying that he could fly empty for five years off of the revenue earned by the mainland operation. If he were to do this, don't you think that the BOD and share holders would object? I would certainly hope so.
