I've heard rumors...is it true? If so, anybody know if its temporary (parking airplanes due to staffing/mx issues) or permanent?

Please no flame...and yes, I know its a fools errand to ask such a thing.

i know alot of the IAD ERJs are being painted info Delta colors going to F8

Somebody has. Skywest has picked up some extra flying that another UAX carrier can't fly. They are offering anything picked up from open time at 150% pay. In SLC there are 1237 pairings in open time between now and July 31st. fyi

It appears that Skywest has temporarily picked up roughly two aircraft worth of flying for UAX due to Mesa's inability to staff the planes properly. As for the open time question, Skywest does pay time and a half for open time within ten days of the trip, however they have offered to pay time and a half even if the trip is 20 days out instead of ten.

thought the email said 150% until the end of July

You are correct, the e-mail did say till the end of July, and I believe the reason being that Mesa will take the flying back in August, therefore the company only needs help covering trips until the end of July.

If you compare them to your PBS pairings you should find 1237 total occurrences for the month of July to bid. I do not believe that the new flying is loaded into the system yet because I cannot find it.

Anyways 2 aircraft would not even come close to 1237 pairings for a month, especially in only one base. SkyWest averages less than 190 total flights per month per aircraft.

I don't think they were ever going to load it into the system because they got it from united after the bid opened.....that's also why they're going to put it all in open time and offer mega bucks for us to fly it......

Sounds to me that Mesa should be picking up the tab for the SKW operational costs (on top of the fee-for-departure paid by UAL) for these pairings they can't run...but that would make too much financial sense for this industry.

Explain to me how Mesa is going to get better staffing between now and August 1st.

I sure hope we don't see any more Freedom E145s flying for Delta. No fault of the crews whatsoever, but this airline is destroying any good reputation Delta may ever have had in my home city, and many others served by a once proud airline. My commute on them is pure hell.

I wish all Mesa pilots out there every best wish on getting another job at a good company, so that DAL will eventually be forced to dump Freedom, rather than award them more airframes!

It is simply unbelievable that a major airline such as Delta would even consider using this carrier as a feeder. I have heard from many Freedom crews that they are treated like dirt. Totally unacceptable treatment from your management, get out now while the going is good guys!

If you are senior, of course it is difficult to start the climb from the bottom again, but remember that life will very quickly get better than it could ever be at Mesa.

Seems like just about anything is better than working for MESA/Freedom!

Good luck to all of you.

My understanding is that Mesa has been asking United to "share the love" amongst the other UAX carriers, when it comes to those six horrible airports we all know and love, ie. LGA, JFK, BOS, EWR...etc. I believe we dropped our flying into these crapholes by about 2/3's.

That flying was destroying that ability to keep schedules, QOL, etc. JO has been working on getting United to divy that flying out fairly for months. It will be interesting to see if it has a positive effect on Mesa's numbers or not in the next month. For you guys about to suck up some of this flying...I feel for you. I loath that flying. Those additional DEN overnights that recently popped up, are going to be a sanity check.

BTW, JO thinks this will help his serious attrition problem here. Supposedly, our attrition in the United system is 4X what it is in the other systems. It still comes down to being treated fairly and honestly. That concept still eludes this management. Pilots still have better places to be, and they are leaving by the boxcar. The house is on fire and we didn't even have to supply the match.

Letting it burn.

Mesa is doing everything in it's power to have United give us the boot. Or it looks that way, anyway.

In Mesa corporate speak, losing 36% of it's flying and 70 total airplanes would be a good thing, because our staffing problems would be "solved" . In fact, a great many pilots would be furloughed. But the flying, which is unprofitable under the contract with United that our current braintrust signed, would no longer be losing money.

20 of the 37 CRJ2's could easily be sent to China (and probably more)

15 of the CRJ7's would be re-absorbed into the Delta and USAir system.

The remaining Embrariers and D-8's would pose a bit of a pickle though.

Mesa has been so desperate for pilots to fly for the past YEAR they've been paying DOUBLE TIME. And they still can't get people to fly this crap.

Does this not say everything you need to know about Mesa that fo's won't volunteer at an average of $62/hr, and ca's at $140?

What is your beef with Freedom exactly?? You dont work for em!! cuz your commute sucks, does that mean that DL should dump freedom??? You need to elaborate more.

Another thing... I understand the contract at MESA sucks balls. Everyone knows that. But starting September, we have the option to make things a whoooooole lot better. Some pilots have soooo much hate toward MESA mgt. that they would rather see MESA close its doors and see all the employees and pilots out on their a$$es. Instead of hoping the company tanks under and having us all screwed, fight for a better contract. I would rather fight for a better contract while keeping my job and paying bills and taking care of myself, than see MESA close its doors. Cuz bottom line, if MESA ever did tank, all the Mgt types and CEO that the pilot group hates will find jobs at other airlines....

Pdub - " But starting September, we have the option to make things a whoooooole lot better. "

You haven't been in the airline business very long, if you are willing to say something like this. I'll give you a hint. Go find the nearest wall and start talking to it. Negotiate with it. Ask for sympathy for your family when it comes to QOL. Tell it that you qualify for food stamps.

Let me know when you get somewhere with that wall. That wall doesn't care that 87 pilots left last month. It doesn't care about you or your family. That wall hasn't spent one dollar on a retention program. Now that you have a better idea of the task at hand, consider reading the section you recently received on the RLA process for contract negotiations.
