...a cumulative figure (average, of course) for lost wages/benefits each year a pilot does not have a job with an airline? There was a professor at the college I attended that would tell us that as motivation to expidite our flying careers. I would appreciate your input considering I cannot contact him and the figure he calculated was pre 9/11. Thanks.

Take the average salary of those who do have jobs and multiply that by the number of years one is unemployed or under employed. How accurate does it have to be? You do know that macro economic figures do not compute in micro economic formulas.
