Where is the best place to stay for a three day trip to Harlingen ?

San Antonio! Sorry but I don't know a good place to stay in Harlagen, all the places I've stayed on the border SUCK! Hopefully someone can tell you a decent place to stay.

There is a Hampton Inn if I remember correctly. Again, nothing fancy.

South Padre Island is not too far away. A rental car and you can be there in about 1 hour. If you will be in HRL for more than 1 day I would recommend this option. At least South Padre is a vacation spot with the vacation hotels. If you are staying for only 1 day or 1.5 days it might be better to stay in town......

I would make the drive........
In fact I used to. When we stayed in HRL for the weekend (Sat AM through Monday PM). I would rent a car and go to the beach, hang out all day and come back to the "company" hotel only for bedtime.

If you like to fish I can recommend a charter guy out of Port Mansfield. He fishes for reds and specks in the bay. Again about a 1 hr drive. He does have a very nice lodge and if you like to fish this could be a good option for at least a day or 2.
