Handheld Radio's

I need a good handheld (i.e. good reception and broadcasting range, durable, etc) for those "just in case" situations. Any recommendations? Under $250 would be preferable.

i just got the vxa220 for $199. from wagaero, its a backup with sidetone, works like a charm.... oh, p.s you need the ptt switch to operate with a headset...
