Forgive me if this is a confusing question, but I was wondering if anyone else from Minnesota recieved the same letter.

Basically some guy from St. Paul that has been instructing for 40 years is doing a study on accidents during the landing phase of flight. He wants to meet with CFIs to discuss how they teach landings. He sent a stamped postcard to send back to him requesting phone number/email and a few questions about how much instructional time we have. He would like to meet for 45 minutes or so to discuss these things.

I might be interested in participating, but I just found it odd that he sent me a letter. It was addressed by hand, and not sent out like you would see from a mass mailing. I haven't instructed for nearly two years, so not sure why he would be sending this out. It seems that he would be better off going to area flight schools to find current instructors.

Anyway, if anyone else has recieved this, or know who the guy is, I would appreciate learning what you know.

Sorry for the rambling nature or this, but it just seemed odd, and I wasn't sure how to describe it.

I think I got that letter as well...just glanced at my mail when I got home from vacation. I'll have to check it out. Be interesting to see what his thought process is.

Maybe he's going alphabetically...my last name starts with an A ;)

Fly safe!

David

Letter!

I got one too and was surprised how he got my name & etc.
Have'nt intructed in 8+ years.....although my CFI is current.
Maybe thrugh some name/addy data bank or something.

Good effort on his part to keep learning & improving.

I saw STP and thought of Scott Weiland from Stone Temple Pilots. Oops.

Probably Brian Addis. Guy has been around for a long time and owns Wings. He also does some instruction at Inver Hills. Took a human factors class from him when I was in high school (that should tell you how long he's been around)

I was wondering if it was Addis as well. Sounds like something he might do.

I also got the letter, my last name starts with an H, so probably not alphabetical. I threw it away, I have about 250 hours of dual given, and the last time I did that it was about 6 years ago.

Was the letter signed? Sounds like it was from Manny Block. Manny is pursuing a PHD in Aviation. If you have the time he is a great instructor and one should try to assit him with his project, you will find it very informative.
