Just a little something I am thinking about.

What would be the benefits to getting a Gulfstream IV/V type rating and then submitting resumes/applications to various corporate jet companies.

Would it be the same as getting the 737 type for Southwest? As in you need it before you can start training, and from what I read, in most cases before you get an interview.

Well the G-IV Type is around $38,000 and the G-V Type is about $48,000, you could probably get a "Buy 2" discount, I'm guessing you'd still lay out $75,000+ to do this (not including hotels, meals, car, travel, etc...)

And for your $75,000 you'd have 2 good type ratings without any time in type... Basically worthless...
 
I agree, it's worthless.

I'm interviewing some guys this week for a Gulfstream position. There were two applicants who paid for their own type ratings and have zero time in type. Their resumes were discarded.
 
I guess so! So basically they can charge 50k to train a pilot because the jet costs as much as 2-3 rj's?
 
When I went through Simuflite, there were 3-4 guys who paid their own way at 18-19k plus expenses.

All of them, all of which were very experienced current or retired airline, had some sort of contract work lined up. Without the contacts, it would be very, very difficult to find anything consistent without time in type.
 
Does anyone know how the GIV type will correlate to the G350 or G450 type. Is it merely a differences training for the new avionics or a whole new type. Thanks in advance.
 
I agree w/ capt zman, unless you have something lined up or something similar in the type of flying that a type rating is needed for, it's worthless. People (me) got 73 types JUST to interview, it's worthless without x hours in type. A CFI rating is worth more.

The G-IV Type covers the G-IV, G-300 and G-400.

The G-350, G-450, G-550 and G-V are all covered under the G-V Type Rating.

Simple marketing/pricing:

The person who'll go out and buy a $50 MILLION jet, won't flench at paying $40,000 to get his Captain trained in it.

The guy probably puts more then that in the gas tank every time he goes on a trip!
 
What it really comes down to is supply and demand. Most of the airline sims are used to trasin their own pilots. so any additional outside training given is pure profit, since the training of their own personnel covers all the costs. FSI and Simuflite are in the business of training and the sim must cover all the costs.
