Anyone know how long the contract is good for between these two? Rumor has it that it may expire soon. Thanks for the info!

MKAY!! :p :D

The original agreement started back in 1997. Then in 1999 Continental acquired a minority stake in Gulfstream (28%)...part of this deal resulted in the B1900Ds going to Gulfstream. Basically, Continental buying the shares resulted in 3M having the money to buy the aircraft. I was always under the impression that the agreement was for 7 years, starting in 1997. Whether or not this changed in 1999...I don't know.
There have been a lot of rumors floating around that Skywest could be taking over Connection flights in FL...and judging by your profile, Mkay, this would be good news for you ;)
Cheers,
Markus

So if Gulfstream looses all the CAL flying, what happens to all the Pay For Training guys waiting for their jobs in the right seat of a 1900D?

I assume the company will issue a full refund, no?

I mean, those jobs are guaranteed aren't they?

Ouch...

CAL isn't the only airline that Gulfstream Code-shares with...United and Northwest are also partners. It would hurt Gulfstream a lot but I don't think they would necessarily cease ops. I'm sure they could pick another partner up. Florida is a BIG market.
Cheers,
Markus

Thanks for the info Paladin. So it may be that the contract is up for renewal in 2004 then. That would make the rumors I've been hearing somewhat more believeable. Do you fly in Florida? Take it easy!

MKAY!! :p :D

I've heard that Gulfstream is now doing USAir flying also in Florida. I also heard that upgrades are going to start there soon (maybe started already). I don't think any of the GIA students need to worry about losing their 250 hours in the 1900. They may not all get a permanent job, but they'll at least get what they paid for.

I think that this is a result of USAirways now being part of the Star Alliance. Air Midwest (Mesa) already serves many of the same markets that Gulfstream does...with the same equipment (B1900D), for USAirways. United has a code-share agreement with Gulfstream. Now that USAirways and United share some flight numbers, some Gulfstream flights might have a *US* prefix.

I don't know about how long the deal is with CO. It seems to always be on shakey ground. I think that last December when CO gave Gulfstreams shares back to them that they changed the code share deal to that if CO wanted to drop Gulfstream as a codeshare partner all thay had to do was give a three month notice. As far as the 250hr guys, I am sure that they would get there money back if the company was no longer and they are not garanteed a job after there 250hrs. As far as the US Airways flying.... they are flying Airways passengers to the outer islands in the Bahamas because Air Midwest has not been approved to operate to those islands. Latest I have heard though is that CO and Raythion have either bought shares of stock or loaned money to help the airlines lower its debt.

Well I guess you just have to unpack your swimsuit and suntan oil or get your deposit back on your beachfront condo in Miami Beach. CAL codeshare has been renewed for another 3 years. United codeshare also stands but I don't know for how long until it's up for renewal.

As for the USAir flying, Air Midwest has been unable to attain flag authorization from the FAA to fly into the Bahamas. So Air Midwest charters GIA to fly to these destinations. That will continue until Sep 30th unless extended.

Hope that helps.
