Thought you guys might find this interesting - Watching the "Champcar World Series" on NBC, and what do I see, but a Gulfstream TV ad?! One of the auto racing series owners, Kevin Kalkhoven (made his money at JDS Uniphase) owns a Gulfstream (V? 550?), and has arranged for Gulfstream to sponsor one of his ars, driven by former champion Jimmy Vasser. Apparently, Gulfstream wants to leverage their sponsorship, so they also did a couple of Tv ads. A bit odd to see a mass-market TV ad for a product that only has a few hundred customers, but I guess it's a bit like Accenture ads on golf - they hope to target those decisionmakers.

The ad showed both the large cabin G1159-based models, and the IAI models, especially the G150.

Gulfstream also used to sponsor a race out at Aspen a few years back. You can see some of the jerseys hanging up on the walls of a few places.

No, I'm pretty sure it was some kind of ski race. I saw the jersey in the breakfast room of the Molly Gibson hotel. I wasn't in the business at the time, but I heard they would have a bunch of demo planes on the ramp with all the Mickey Mouse stuff.

No it is great marketing by Gulfstream. Sponsoring Nascar and other racing series will give them access to all the companies that sponsor cars or the sport. Look at all the Big companies that sponsor cars. If Gulfstream can tap into that market then they will sell more airplanes.

Cool. Was the G150 in flight? I can't remember what the status is on that thing.

I'm gonna have to get myself a TV if they're showing stuff like that!:)

Don't think so, but I'd need to recheck the video.

As mentioned earlier, much auto racing sponsorship is B-to-B. When Target sponsors a car for example, they use it as an opportunity to solidify relationships with their suppliers. Maybe Gulfstream is trying to do the same with other champcar sponsors.

G200

With an order to delivery time for the G200 of 13 months, I guess they're lining them up for next fall deliveries.
