Hello all, New to this board. I got selected back in Dec for a 135 slot with my wing. I Can't wait to get to AMS and UPT.

My package got up to the Bureau in mid july. You give them 100 pages of paper work and they want 101. I had to send some more paper their way in early Aug. Well Now I am back to waiting. I already have my clearence, I was just wondering how the process went for some of the other guard types out there. I Know it takes a while, but since my package has been up at the Bureau for about 9 weeks and I have a secret clearence already, I was wondering how long it usually takes once they start looking at it. Thanks

off topic, how did your clearance go? How long did it take from when you sent it in to getting interviewed? What kind of stuff did they ask you/your references? Got mine coming up whenever they get around to it...

I already had my clearence, because I am already a cop in the air guard. So I was lucky enough to already have one.

I would get on it right away. Clearences can take a long time. I one trick is see if the unit that selected you will ask for a interem (sp?) clearence. It is like a temporary one until your actual one comes through. That way your package I believe can go through the process and not wait for a actual secret clearence. I know the guard bureau doesn't like to grant them, but I bet if you got your new squadron commander to push it, it might be able to happen for you. Good luck. the process is a paper work pain in the rear and can take forever. But remember it is all worth it.

Thanks for the info. As far as boards sitting, my board sits the 24th of september, **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED** tommorow! My unit boss said I should know on Oct 1st when my OCS date is.

the clearance...

First of all, congrats Bloud on getting the nod.

This is for anyone beginning the Guard slot application process.
I know this really doesn't answer anyone’s' question on this thread, I just wanted to know what the recent selectees are going (or have gone) through.

Here's my story:
OK, my initial package was sent at the end of May with the deadline being June 1 '02. The board met July 8th-11th '02. I was invited for an interview about 2 weeks after the application deadline. 18 days after I interviewed I was notified that I was selected for 1 of the 3 UPT slots for the c130. Since then I:

- Went to the local MEPS for a commissioning physical.
- Had a courtesy enlistment done at the local guard unit. (the unit that selected me is 4000 miles away hence the courtesy enlistment necessary)
- Filled out the EPSQ (electronic personnel security questionnaire) SF86 and sent it electronically to the Defense Security Service to begin the background check that must pass in order for me to get my security clearance. .Bloud, is this the 100 pages you were facetiously referring to? So far I've only sent the 31 page form (sf86)
- I have my flight physical scheduled for Oct. 5

What I have left to do before I can be scheduled for AMS:

- Go to Texas and do a specialized flight physical. Anyone know how this physical differs from the flight physical?
- Wait for my clearance,,,,, I was told the clearances these days are taking at least a year once they open your case.
- Answer the constant question "so when are you leaving for training?"

What's everyone else going through?

Good luck,

SR

Paperwork

I know what you mean about paperwork. I just finished the local interview board with the Army and had an excellent interview score.

The paperwork crap kills me and drives me insane. I gave 500 pages of paperwork but they wanted 557.3 pages. Talk about red tape. My packet was sent on to the national board and its on hold there now waiting for more paperwork to arrive. It infuriates me because me recruiter kept tellin' me we were done.

Best I can give you

Skyride, I don't quite know how long you have been in the system, but man expect your package to get screwed up. I thought their was no way my package would take so long, but it has. The paper work I was refuring to is my actual package. I already had a clearance so that is one box I already had filled. Ask your unit if they can request at interem (sp?) clearance, it is a temporary one that can work until you actual one is approved.

The crappy thing is that the system is not know by all who are doing your package. at least that is the my case. Keep on them to check up on your stuff. I am sitting on my third month with my package waiting its approval a guard bureau. If something does get messed up or lost the bureau is bad about getting the word to you. If something is messed up or you need a wavier for something. Make sure they find out exactly what is all needed and give them more then they request.

The name of the game is hurry up and wait. It is all worth it, but right now it is fustraing, ecspecially when your wife keeps asking when are we going to find out when we leave. Oh well good luck and keep your head up.

What kind of things do they look for in the background check? I heard they come and interview your friends and family??

This is the form I filled out. Im sure there will be more to come. http://www.dss.mil/epsq/sf86work.doc This form is used by atleast the Air National Guard, not sure what branch you're asking about.

Haven't heard they interview family and friends except over the phone which would be expected.

Good Luck,

SR
