I am currently a cfi cfii and have not flown in about 2yrs (foot surgery and divorce long story she was a b!tch)anyway...I am wondering what should I do to get back into it and learn enough to get a job? I admit my instrument skills aren't that up to par and I just got my cfi cfii when my life kindda got complicated...

Are you legally current or no? If not, you're going to have to go through quite a bit of training anyways to pass the CFI ride again. If you are, then you have a bit more flexibility.

My cfi is good through 2005 but I'm not sure what to do about currency. I am starting to feel a little "out of the loop" with knowledge and confidence. Where I live no one wants to hire a low time cfi because they have a desk full of high time cfi's!!!

here's my take on this one...start simple, read a book...the AIM or Airplane Flying Handbook, somethign to help you get familiar with the details again, continue to keep the CFI current and start slow one or two students at a time and work up form there...best of luck to you...

Get with an instructor and do an IPC, I'd imagine some lessons will be needed. As far as the ground, start cracking all those books that got you the CFI.

Well, Ya know what they say if you fall off a horse. Get right back up on that saddle and keep on going. There is no better way to learn than by teaching. I remember my first Inst. student. I think I learned just as much as he did. I just made sure that all the info I gave him was correct. I had my CFII binder out and ready to go. Go back to that binder and re-read the lesson just prior to teaching. The other advice you’ve gotten thus far is good. But I would not wait till I “felt” ready. See if you can’t hustle up some students. Put out some flyers. Aviation is all about contacts. Maybe someone you know needs a BFR?.” Don’t let your first X stop you. Go back to where you got your CFI. They may be able to help…

Best of luck.

Very easy solution. Get back into the books and study and find an instructor and airplane and go fly. Work on everything, have him/her sign off a BFR and IPC, and you'll be good to go. Then, for good measure, promote your services for such things as flight reviews, comp checks, and WINGS to re-hone your instructing abilites. After you do all of the above, you'll get all set.

Have fun with your flying.
