Been awhile since I heard anything about Great Lakes. Anything happening over that way as far as furlough recalls/hiring and work environment improvements? Thanks all
 
i do know they have all of their furloughs back but i dont know if or when they will start hiring
 
Well if you work really hard and fly during your weekends and vacations, and compile lots of references, you could work your way up to the 737 through Great Lakes. That's what happened to Nicole Lewis. (Ref. the Washington Post article 8-5-03). She came from Great Lakes to SWA.
 
One would think since Skywest is hiring again, Lakes will need to fill positions pretty soon!

embraerjetpilot, I'm not sure what your point is. We are (and have been for 3+ years) working on a new contract that will hopefully bring improved conditions, if and when negotiations end, one way or another. Our strike vote passed 100%, every last man and woman is willing to walk if need be. And we don't work for free - of course I make peanuts in the grand scheme of things, but I'm willing to bet I make more per seat than you do, not that it matters a whole hill of beans.

Anyway, this month junior manning is rampant, and there is desparate need for some additional people, but no classes are scheduled. Like 5 went to Air Wisconsin, some are considering leaving for Skywest, and several are headed for majors, and thats just this month. The very small base in MSP is closing, leaving DEN and CYS as the only domiciles. That may slightly ease the pinch in Denver. GJT and RAP were recently added, and we were able to make a killing during Sturgis. Thats the recent highlights.
 
We're Getting 50 Seat Buses

Starting in October, Great Lakes is getting 50 seat buses. Yup, that's right, and I'm not talking airbuses either, I'm talking 50 seat roadmasters. Supposedly we're getting 4 of them and they are going to run the buses from Denver to Fort Collins, Denver to Laramie, and Denver to Cheyenne. The plan is for the buses to pick the security screened passengers and their bags up at the outstation airport and then drop them off out on the GLA ramp in Denver. The buses are going to have "flight" numbers and everything. I'm guessing that the actual airplane flight schedules at both Laramie and Cheyenne will remain the same and the bus will just suppliment that schedule. Ole Chucky wasn't kidding when he said that he wanted to expand into the 30-50 market, we just didn't know he was talking about road-going buses instead of airplanes.

So, if I need to get to Cheyenne from DEN, I could either go downtown and stumble into the Greyhound station (drinking from my brown bag of course), pay my $39, get on a bus and go,

OR

I could drive 30 minutes to DIA, pay to park, walk 10 minutes to the terminal, stand in the security line for 25 minutes (sober), take my shoes off, get frisked, watch the nervous group of TSA people form around the X-ray machine for 10 minutes before deciding to do something about it, walk 10 minutes to the post office to mail my freakin' Leatherman home, come back, go through security again, get in line for the train, ride the train and hope it doesn't break down, then walk another 1/2 mile to the end of the A concourse, down the escalator, wait in line again for 10 to 15 minutes, then walk the last 1/4 mile to the gate, then get on the bus and go.

Hmmmmmmmm, I DO like lines though, hmmmmmmmmm, hmmmmmm......I dunno, it's a wash...

Do you need to be typed in it, or will they hire "drivers" off the street. Will it count toward time for SWA????

I'm sure you can work with United on this one for a J4j on this one, just make sure you offer second year pay.

Great Lakes Aviation, Ltd. Reports July 2003 Traffic

CHEYENNE, Wyo., Aug 15, 2003 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Great Lakes Aviation, Ltd. (OTC Bulletin Board: GLUX) today announced preliminary passenger traffic results for the month of July.

Scheduled service generated 11,824,000 revenue passenger miles (RPM's), a 8.3 percent decrease from the same month last year. Available seat miles (ASM's) decreased 9.5 percent to 28,355,000. As a result, load factor increased 0.6 points to 41.7 percent. Passengers carried decreased 11.4 percent to 42,586 when compared with July 2002.

For the seven months ending July 31, 2003 compared to the same seven month period in 2002, revenue passenger miles (RPM's) decreased 16.3 percent to 65,770,000 while available seat miles (ASM's) decreased 9.2 percent to 187,536,000, resulting in a load factor of 35.1 percent for the year 2003 compared to 38.0 percent for the same seven month period in 2002. The company carried 238,575 revenue passengers for the seven month period ending July 31, 2003, a 19.7 percent decrease on a year over year basis.

Great Lakes commenced service between Rapid City, South Dakota and Denver, Colorado on July 30, 2003. On August 1, 2003 the company initiated service between Grand Junction and Denver, Colorado. The services consist of 3 round-trips daily and offer connecting opportunities with our code share partner Frontier Airlines.

As of August 1, 2003, Great Lakes is providing scheduled passenger service at 43 airports in eleven states with a fleet of Embraer EMB-120 Brasilias and Raytheon/Beech 1900D regional airliners. A total of 194 weekday flights are scheduled at three hubs, with 180 flights at Denver, 8 flights at Minneapolis/St. Paul, and 6 flights at Phoenix. All scheduled flights are operated under the Great Lakes Airlines marketing identity in conjunction with code-share agreements with United Airlines and Frontier Airlines at their Denver hub.
