Guys --

I have been asked to fly a C-208 to Cozumel out of Houston in a few weeks... Has anyone done this? If so, input?

My background -- CAL Pilot, former corporate G550, Falcon 50/900EX guy... Regional Airlines, and C650 Charter... Flight Instructor...

We are consider crossing the gulf directly out of Houston... We have life jackets, raft, sat. locator beacon, food, water, etc... but, I have some concerns... great airplane with great mtx... but....

How's hour luck and swiming skills?

Chances are you will be fine, but it is a single engine aircraft and a lot of water ;)

I agree that if the airplane has been properly maintained there is nothing to be worried about. I have flown them all over the world with lots of over water operations.

How much 208 time do you have?

NWPilot seems to be the ferry guru, albeit a cowboy from my take. Maybe ask him about some specifics as he's crossed the big pond in piston singles a few times, I believe.

I'll rather be over the warm water then flying night IFR and/or over mountains in a single. I have done the night, IFR and mountains in a TBM700 in the past.
