Yes, it's true. The pilot was one of my old students and friend. I don't know all the details yet so I won't elaborate, but CFIT is suspected. My prayers are with his family and friends.
I am just asking to make sure. Was it a plane flown by King Airelines (spelling is intentional)? I am just asking because I flew for that place for about a year and a half. (God, I hope not but, whoever it was, my prayers are with them). Hopefully this turns out, better than it initially sounded.
I just made a few calls (in the middle of the night),
this one is very true! If anyone knows the family, tell them that a complete stranger is feeling for them! No one should have to deal with this. I am truly sorry for their loss! I have to go so that I can fly tommorrow.
My condolences,
Tuna
Having flown the Ditch for three diferent companies including King, I would have to say King ranked at the bottom. I personally knew 3 people who had engine failures/forced landings while working there. I feel for the family of the pilot who is missing. There is a lot of land out there and however unlikely it may be he might have gotten lucky and put it in the bush somewhere. I hope so. If any one knows the pilot/family and things turn out bad, make sure they have the Feds take a long hard look at the operation and the airplane. Going out over gross was common there along with questionable maintenance. I felt lucky to have gotten on at another company after only 2 months of working there.
I heard on the afternoon news today that they had located the wreckage on a mountain SE of lake Mead. They were unable to gain access to the crash site today, but determined from fly overs that there was no surviver.
I couldn't find any print articles the internet regarding this, maybe someone else can and will post one.
My condolences to the family and all who knew the pilot.
From what I heard, the clouds were low that day and the pilot went out alone on a scout mision to determine if it was possible to make it to Canyon West VFR. He was in a C-207. His wreckage was found on Wilson's Ridge. Not sure if this is exactly true though. Just word of mouth.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family. I use to hang out with these guys at the West rim when I worked for Air Vegas. Just news that all of us don't want to hear.
