From reading on here, I think Colgan interviews for Capt. positions as opposed to just upgrading FO's as needed, correct?(I'm not talking street captains, I mean FO's upgrading) If this is the case what are the requirements for getting a Captain interview once you've been hired as a FO? Is it a time with the company thing, total time, multi, time in type or what? Is typical upgrade time still about a year or so?

They do a pre-upgrade interview, they ask some system questions and some FOP questions. If you stayed out of the Chief pilots office and you have the time when your number comes up almost everyone gets through it fine. Upgrade currently about 18 months

right now they are looking at about 2200 TT with at least 1 year in right seat here. If you have previous 121 experience say left or right seat time somewhere else with more than 2200 TT then they may consider you sooner. But for now, Colgan has decided to just go thru the FO upgrades and Beech transitions. The FOs coming thru the upgrade pipeline have got the time and experience and there are now plenty of them to move up unless they decide to bolt. Plus the Feds don't want Street Captains. Feds want 1 year minimum in right seat before moving up.

Yeah the FEDs also want us to get out of the airplane and check the wings for ice prior to takeoff. The feds SUCK.

Funny thing is that I don't see any Airbus or 757 FO at mainline US or UAL opening the door to do the Pre-takeoff Ice check. Go pick on someone else Ed the Fed.

they prolly tell us that on the ramp then grab a bag of popcorn run up to the tower and laugh at us as we shut engines down, shiver and look for the ice on the wings.

Why don't the Feds want street Captains? I would think time in type and experience would be good anywhere.

I flew on Southwest yesterday and due to the flight being 100% full, rode in the cockpit, the crew was great. CASS works well, so bring your passport.
