Hip hip Hooray.....

Now, all I need is to pass the intreview and sim ride!!! Any help, sugestions...etc. EVERYTHING from interview attire, sim profile, interview gauge, etc. This is my first 135 interview and I WANNA BE READY!!! Also, what is it like to fly the line, a typical day? I am extremely excited about the oportunity!

Thanks,

Warren

craig has read all of those gouges...and he told me you can tell if an applicant has been using them.

HR interview - standard stuff. why you want to work there, why should they hire you, etc, etc...

tech - system stuff about the light twin you've flown the most....but it turns more into another HR thing.

written test - part 61/91 questions. IFR procedures, WX....wasn't as bad as i thought it would be.

Sim ride - they'll give you a packet with your clearance before you get up there with the speeds they want flown. TO out of CMH, maneuver or two, direct APE...expect an AI failure, holding clearance, non precision approach, missed, engine failure (go through your procedures and checklists), ILS at CMH. The important thing to remember is to do things by the books. Identify navaids, use your checklists, verbalize what your are doing so they know that you have your stuff together.

When exactly is the interview date, i'll be up there for training starting next week...hope to see you around.

This may be a dumb question, but is that a bad thing or a good thing?

from what i could garner.....they don't want someone who just preps for the interview to look good. it takes a "special" kind of person to be a freight dog. So it is best to just be yourself, since craig is a better judge of who will be good than you. If he thinks you wouldn't fit in up there, it is better for you to not be hired, then to be working 3rd shift and be miserable for at least a year now (training agreement).

Guilleltine has a good point. I worked at Airnet for a while and it was a great job but make sure you're willing to work nights for a couple years or more. Even if you are o.k. with working nights, it will have its moments when you will probably get kinda down on things. i.e. when your day off is on a wednesday and it's 3:00 in the morning and all your friends are asleep and have work the next day anyway. What do you do for the next 5 hours or so until your normal bedtime? It is a great job but if you are having doubts about working nights, Craig will be doing you a favor by not hiring you.

Think of it this way...you might get lucky and get a day run. Then you do not have to worry about nights. That's what i did until i got the lear...then it was time to worry about working nights. I don't think we have any lears during the day, i could be wrong though.

Also, try the schedule swap thing. It might work for you...for example, do your work thing during the week, then switch back to a day schedule on your weekends. It works pretty well for me. I just stay up all day on friday and switch to nights that night. Monday is harder, i get up early in the day with my daughter, and then i have to take a good nap before heading off to work. At least that way i can live normally with my family for a few days.

By the way Congrats on the interview...it is usually pretty laid back. When i went it was wear a pair of slacks and a button up shirt (without a tie). They do not want you in a suit, it makes no sense to wear a suit to a freight dog interview. Dress for the job...well almost, i wouldn't wear a pair of jeans or shorts(our uniform :D ) to the interview. What i did was call craig and ask what he would like...maybe you should do that.

As far as a typicaL day...there isn't one. Unfortunately they are all different. There is a post about a typical day here further down the list that has some ideas.

Good luck, and ask any and all questions you would like, we will be happy to help.

Great, unless you bid a day run, get checked out in a new airplane, pack a great big moving truck, only to be called essentially as you are leaving your driveway to be told that the run is closing in 3 weeks.....

D@MN!!:(

Oh well....

I know your pain IPO... I took a voluntary move to MEM back in the second week of DEC 2001 only to be told after i flew the first week that they were moving the run to JAN(MS). So i had until the first of the year to:get a new run(i went with the run when they moved it to JAN), cancel my lease(thank goodness they paid for it), arrange movers to load the u-haul, find a place to live in JAN, find movers to unload the truck...and so on and so forth. Oh yeah, to add to the fun of the whole thing, we ended up having that run cancelled as well. So i had a closed base with the same run twice...kinda funny. Welocme to the world of Airnet...you never know what will happen...just my .02, but do not buy a house while you work for this company unless you are willing to commute. We bought in JAN because it was so cheap there, only to have airnet cancel the run and we had to move(I couldn't commute out of JAN...very little airline service). So airnet was nice enough to pay for the realtor fees <---- read that as over $9K plus moving expenses...I felt bad, but it is in our company manual that they will do it. Man that was a sweet run too, show at 11am, fly to Houston and then fly back. I was home working on the yard by 6:30pm every day...5 day run as well.

OK, sorry to hijack again, but hey, this has to do with airnet so this can give you some insight on what you might expect at some point during your tenure with the company.

for most things concerning airnet i would take starchkr's word to the bank....but in regards to the dress for the interview he is wrong. they USED to run a more casual interview process, but now ask for business attire (suit). reason being, they are looking for lear captains so professionalism is up there are as requirement. so anyway, dress up....but expect to feel overdressed compared to everyone else. I believe i was the only one there with a tie (excluding other interviewe). the interviews are laid back though, have fun.

Klein
