Hello folks !

Does anyone know the best school to rent a decent, well maintained plane close to New York City ?

I once checked out one in TEB, at Millionare, but they don't do that anymore there ??

Thanks, Paul

FRG on long Island. They have several places that rent lots of different types. Go to the Republic Airport website where theres a listing of the flight schools on the field. You may want to actually stop by each one and poke around at things.

KFRG has plenty of places to rent airplanes and for the most part, they're kept pretty well. I'd advise avoiding Nassau Flyers and Air East. I hear bad things about them, but check them out for yourself and you should know right away after a tour of the airplanes and listening to their answers when you ask about maintenance and fees, etc.

Keep in mind that KFRG has a $2.50 landing fee (this includes each touch and go - basically, if your wheels touch the pavement, you're billed) so don't go doing too many touch and go's there. But you're definitely hit with that landing fee when returning the plane.

You may also want to look into KISP for rentals, but that's a bit of a longer drive if you're coming from the city. Also look into Westchester.

From what I hear, AirEast flies their students until there accountant thinks you're ready. This usually means lots of extra hours and prog checks. Their fleet consists of Warriors in the worst shape possible. Champagne prices for swill quality.

Certified Flyers II at KMMU (Morristown, NJ)...About a 1 hr checkout if you are proficient, and the fleet available for rent includes 4 6-pack Cessna 172s(all year 2001 or later) and 2 C-172 G-1000s. (Longer checkout to rent the G-1000). Pretty close to NYC, and there are also Cirrus aircraft to rent there if you complete the transition and join a user agreement (about 50-75 hours rented at a time, with other benefits). PM me if you want to know more.

Thank You Guys Soooooooooooooo Much For All The Kind Help In My Renting Efforts Here In The City !!

I Made An Appointment For Midisland Air And Also Westchester ... But My Work On The Film, "i Am Legend", With Will Smith Was Cut Short .. They Decided To Computer Gnereate The Action, Instead Of Using Us Stunt Guys ...

Will Be Back Though And Get A Checkout Soon !!

Have A Great One !!!

Paul

Dont forget about flying clubs. We have a couple at Morristown and there is a big one in Westchester.

Best Place I found around the city was FRG. Pilots Haven
www.personalflighttrainer.com. They are very down to earth people, Chris the owner is an interesting long haired fellow with lots of knowledge. They have the newest fleet with almost all glass planes. The instructors are very good as well. From the city you can hop a train to the LIRR into Farmingdale from there they have pick-up / drop-off service and of -course they have some of the best rates around. Just tell em Johnny from Ridgewood had sent ya.;)

Thank you Johnny !!

Thank you very much Johnny ... I will !!!!

I'll tell them that too ... and hope to do this the next time I have time in the city while I'm there for work :)
