Very simple question I have. I have gotten mixed replies to this question and I do not know why.

If a student does his flying in a C152 at a class D airport and receives his pre solo aeronautical knowledge endorsement along with his solo endorsement he is ok to solo.

Now my question is... If that same student with the C152 aero. knowledge went away to school and now is flying a C172SP doesnt 61.87(b) say that he needs a new pre solo aero. endorsement because of (ii) Airspace rules and procedures for the airport where the solo flight will be performed and (iii) flight characteristics and operations for the make and model of aircraft to be flown Has changed.

Does the student need a new endorsement in his logbook?

Thans for the Help EVERYONE

The student should definitely fill out a new pre-solo test that is C172 specific. It would be good for the student to get their head in the books for a new plane, and testing over the airport procedures again would be a helpful review. What does it hurt anyway?

Does that student need a new endorsement in his logbook for the pre solo aeronautical knowledge test?(since the switch in a/c and airspace)

Thanks for the reply.

I have already administered a test for the C172

I would give another endorsement because the student has demonstrated new knowledge. Most examiners I know say the more endoresements the better. It is all about covering yourself. What happens if the student has a problem in the future? Can you show a court of law, that you taught the student what you were supposed to teach?

Thanks.

Thats what I did, I gave h9im another endorsent for the C172. he thing is, is that the instructor he had at another flight school, where he flew the 172 SP did not endorse his logbook.

I just wanted to make sure I was correct in endorseing it again. In my opinion part 61.87 definetly means that he should have another end. Thanks for your help

Read 61.87 again...it is very clear that you must endorse for every make and model authorized.

l) Limitations on student pilots operating an aircraft in solo flight. A student pilot may not operate an aircraft in solo flight unless that student pilot has received:

(1) An endorsement from an authorized instructor on his or her student pilot certificate for the specific make and model aircraft to be flown; and

(2) An endorsement in the student's logbook for the specific make and model aircraft to be flown by an authorized instructor, who gave the training within the 90 days preceding the date of the flight.

SATCFI, I agree with you. A c-152 and C-172 are differnt models. In talking with the FAA regional Director today he advised me that the student doesnt need another endorsement for the pre solo aeronautical knowledge test. He said as long as you feel comfortable that the student can fly the aircraft safely and you endorse the studnet pilot certificate that would be fine.

However, he did add at the end of the conversation that more endorsements are better than no endorsements and do what the FAR's tell you what to do. As far he was concerned, he said one is not required.

TO be safe I administered a test and endorsed he logbook for the C172.....
