Just found out I've got to pick up our 210 in Wichita tomorrow. Genius boss who likes bargain-basement travel has booked me into MCI and I have to drive to ICT (200 miles) to save a couple hundred bucks. I figure I might as well get some decent KC BBQ while I'm riding thru.

Suggestions, please.

Paola, KS airport for lunch. Kind of on the way in from Wichita (I think). If you're talking KC proper, go to any of these:

Arthur Bryant's Barbeque - 1.3 miles E - 1727 Brooklyn Ave, Kansas City, 64127 - (816) 231-1123
Fiorella's Jack Stack Barbecue: Martin City - 15 miles S - 13441 Holmes Rd, Kansas City, 64145 - (816) 942-9141
B B's Lawnside Bar-B-Que - 8.7 miles S - 1205 E 85th St, Kansas City, 64131 - (816) 822-7427

I think Jack Stack is the best though!

Arthur Bryant's without a doubt.

Grew up in KC, still miss the BBQ from there. Lot's of good places, but when I go home, I have to go to Bryant's. Whatever you have to do, go there. You'll drive up and think WTF? But go in and order no matter what the line is like.

My first suggestion is find another job. If he's that tight he's cutting corners other places.

If he were that tight he would have just let the faint smell of burning insulation and erratic ammeter indications continue instead of finding the absolute best place he could to have it fixed. Safety is #1 with him. His corner-cutting comes in the form of allowing his planes to look like crap (split headliners, fading paint, nasty original upholstery) and driving 3 hours to save $100 on a commercial flight but have aircraft that hum like sewing machines. Our clients don't care what the planes look like, only that we can make good maps.

I am looking for another job but not b/c of this...

On the note of KC BBQ, I ate at Jack Stack's... friggin awesome, I wish I had a reason to go back.

Sounds like you may have a good one. Usually when the boss wants you to drive for hours to save a few bucks, he's cutting corners on maintenance, insurance, pay, benefits, the light bill......using used cooking oil in the crankcase of his car and used engine oil to cook with....
