Thats the problem with being the first at something (Comair, ASA re: RJs)
Everyone else can improve upon what you've done.
Now, unfortunately it appears that DCI has fallen behind the rest of the industry in providing a customer-friendly experience.
Aircraft:
The E-jet family is far superior (at least in passenger comfort and cargo carrying capability) to the Canadair family.
The aircraft can be accomodated by existing jetways. No mickeymouse "adapters" required.
Overhead bins can accomodate standard sized rollaboards -- there's still not as much space as one might find on a 737 or 757 -- but its a significant improvement over the CRJ and CERTAINLY improves upon the E145 and D328.
There are two full-size lavatories in the front and rear.
Front and rear doorways can provide for quick boarding/deplaning a'la Jetblue if the operator chooses to do so.
Facilities:
Every other major airline has a customer friendly terminals in their hubs -- including frequent flier clubs -- for the small-jet product.
USAir - PHL, CLT: Express concourse features jetways, ground power, air
AMR - ORD, BOS: Eagle concourse features jetways, ground power, air
NWA - DTW: Connection concourse features jetways, ground power, air
CAL - IAH, CLE: Express concourse features jetways, ground power, air
Delta - CVG, ATL, SLC: Connection concourses require customers to walk outside, regardless of the weather, and climb the steep RJ stairs to get onto an airplane that is extremely hot or cold (thanks to a customer-unfriendly APU policy).
Our customers are already looking at the CRJ series the way that, 5 years ago, they might have looked at a Saab or Jetstream. Most airlines are moving towards providing a seamless product that gives customers much less to complain about.
I certainly hope that DCI isn't resting on the laurels of being "first" and is formulating a plan to improve aircraft and infrastructure to provide a competitive product to the customers.
