I'm trying to teach myself more about working on GA aircraft, yet I'm not an a/p. I want know if there is anything out there that is like a dictionary of aircraft hardware parts. I'm sick of talking like an idiot to my mechanic about the doodad thingy that holds the cowling on, when its real name is a camlock. you know, stuff like that... thanks!

To further complicate your dilema, camloc is a brand. You might have screws, camlocs, dzus, or other fasteners. If you relly want to dive into it, pick up a copy of the aircraft spruce and speciality catalog, or Wicks...orany standard parts catalog. You can also pick up a copy of Advisory Circular AC 43.13 2A, 1B, which covers some of this material.

You could refer to the cowl fasteners as cowl fasteners...that works, too.
