I was just wondering if it possible to get a gold seal for ground instruction and if it is possible how do you get one?

Gold Seal AGI-IGI

Don't think so. It's only for flight instructors, according to AC 61-65D, which sets forth certification for pilots, flight and ground instructors.

By the way, this AC has the FAA-approved endorsements for certificates. It's a must-have for all instructors.

Actually to get a Gold Seal Flight Instructor Certificate you have to have a Ground Instructor Certificate.. either an AGI or IGI, I don't think the BGI will qualify...

Good Luck!

That is absolutely correct.

18. GOLD SEAL FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATES. The specific requirements for the gold seal flight instructor certificate are contained in FAA Orders 8700.1, General Aviation Operations Inspector’s Handbook, and 8710.3C, Pilot Examiner’s Handbook. Flight instructor certificates bearing distinctive gold seals are issued to flight instructors who have maintained a high level of flight training activity and who meet special criteria. Once issued, a gold seal flight instructor certificate will be reissued each time the instructor's certificate is renewed. Applicants for gold seal flight instructor certificates must meet the following requirements:

a. The flight instructor must hold a commercial pilot certificate with an instrument rating (glider flight instructors need not hold an instrument rating) or an ATP certificate;

b. The flight instructor must hold a ground instructor certificate with an advanced or instrument ground instructor rating; and

c. The flight instructor must have accomplished the following within the previous 24 months:

(1) Trained and recommended at least 10 applicants for a practical test, at least 8 of whom passed their tests on the first attempt;

(2) Conducted at least 20 practical tests as a designated pilot examiner, or graduation tests as chief instructor of a 14 CFR part 141 approved pilot school course; or

(3) A combination of the above requirements. (Two practical tests conducted equal the credit given for one applicant trained and recommended for a practical test.)

(emphasis added)

Hope that helps some more.

Okay that helps out a little. Now as every thing that is in aviation dealing with the FAA can bobbysand please make that a little more clear. I have a AGI also i am a MEL SEL commercial pilot with instrument. I have given about 45 students ground instruction in the past 4 months and i don t know what eles i need. The part about the 141 is what i dont understand. I teach at a 141 school, but i am just a ground instructor. The FAA took my medical but that is another story. That is why i cant fly. Just wondering about the gold seal for a ground instructor. Will look good on my resume when i am allowed to fly again. March 8, 2004 not that far away.

There is no "Gold Seal" Ground Instructor Certificate, there is ONLY a Gold Seal Flight Instructor Certificate. What we were saying is in order to qualify for the Gold Seal FLIGHT Instructor Certificate you must ALSO have either an AGI or IGI Certificate.

o okay i didnt think so but somebody said something today so i thought i would check it out. Thanks Bobbysand

You'd have to get your CFI and fullfill the requirements of the AC, i.e., instructing the number of students specified and accomplishing the pass rate, etc.

You should still trumpet your abilities. If all of your ground students passed their writtens, etc., you most certainly should promote your successes. Obviously, you can teach. Maybe get your students to write LORs stating how well you teach, etc.

Sorry to hear of your bad AME luck. MaybeLeftseat.com can offer ideas on getting back your medical sooner.
