Are you staying in Shannon or just turning through there? my guess is the later....ground service is as good as it gets - its thier specialty.

If you do stay overnight you will deplane pax/service near the terminal then repo to the other side of the airport for the night.

It CAN get foggy early am in EINN, but rarely low enough to not get in. Good approaches and lots of lights!

Last time I stayed there, we stayed at the CastleTroy hotel Limerick. Good stay, good bar.

We've done a couple of tech stops there. Absolutely no problems.
As for the oceanic crossing, it's way easier than you think. Half-a-dozen position reports, and you'll be there. Have fun.

Thanks!

We are actually staying there for a week!

Should we stay near airport or how far is Dublin etc. by car!

What is there to do? Except Pubs!

Go see the Cliffs of Moher, (I know, touristy, but it's really cool) and hang out on the south coast. County Wexford, etc.

I am going to EINN in Ireland on Challenger. Any advice for first timer on crossing, and Shannon itself!

thanks

I got two words for ya good buddy.........DIRTY NELLYS
Thats all you need to know about Shannon Ire

Just stayed at the Clarion in Limerick. Decent place and Dolans pub just around the corner. FBO is the best. Need to call for oceanic clearance 45 minutes prior to takeoff and have an accurate estimate for coast out time. This can create some issues if your pax aren't on time, but tower is pretty good at reworking times.

Try getting with Willie Leahy for a two or three day horse back ride, he will put you up in nice hotels and provides good horses. Not for the faint of heart, lots of bogs and jumps.

Also Pat Ryain (head of Shanwick ATC) is always up for a pint or two with a Yank, Shanwick will put you through on HF to him.

Pubs

Pace yourself on the Pub Scene. It is easy to "splice the mainbrace" and wind up loosing day 2. Take a fly rod and hire a guide for some fishing. By all means, take the train ANYWHERE!! Just watching the countryside slide by the window is worth the price of admission. Check out http://www.lookintoireland.com/snnork.htm for a wealth of information. And, if you can swing it, pack a bicycle in the back of the baggage compartment.
