JetBlue sets $3 bln order for more Embraer planes
NEW YORK, June 10 (Reuters) - Low-fare airline JetBlue Airways Corp. <JBLU.O> said on Tuesday it ordered 100 mid-size jets from Brazil's Embraer SA <EMBR3.SA> in a deal valued at $3 billion as it pushes ahead with its aggressive fleet expansion.
JetBlue in April placed an order for 65 Airbus A320 aircraft with options for 50 more in a $4.3 billion deal.
The Embraer deal, announced Tuesday, for its new Embraer 190 jet, has an option for up to 100 more planes.
JetBlue has said it expects to grow by 55 percent to 60 percent this year and another 30 percent to 40 percent next year. It has 41 airplanes currently in service and a staff of about 5,000.
At last month's shareholder meeting, JetBlue executives said the company could consider running a few flights into Islip airport on New York's Long Island.
