If you have to wear glasses in the cockpit do they have to be your AF issued ones? A 130 nav I know tells me a buddy of his wears Oakley wraps and they give better peripheral vision, which we all know sucks with the AF issues. If this is legit, will the anal AETC folks allow other types of frames as well? I am actually on the contact lens program now, but since my date got moved up I will not have had them in for 6 months by the time I start UPT. An airman with the optometrist at Sheppard told me if I did not have them in for 6 months by the time I start training I would have to take them out and wear glasses. I would rather keep the contacts believe me but it looks like they are going to screw me. Stupid rule. I am heading to UPT in a few weeks and need to know. Anyone have any experience in this realm? Thanks in advance.

Put the AF issue glasses in one of the pockets on the leg of your flight suit.

Then, after the mishap occurs--assuming you're still alive--as you're repositioning all the switches to their proper positions (prior to the investigators' arrival), take AF issue glasses out of your flight suit pocket & put them on.

Problem solved.

I keep a pair of AF issues in my helmet bag, but I wear contacts. The AF contact lens program is pretty controlled. But hey...when you're in the program, the contacts are free (disposables)!!

I would try not to voice your opinions on the flight docs/eye docs rules (well, they're really not "their" rules) to their faces. They can "screw" you out of being "pilot qualified" in a heartbeat (pardon the pun). :D
