I guess F900 would also be included in this group, GLF4, etc.

Basically, how hard is it to get one of these jobs? I know most of corporate aviation is from connections and who you know, so if someone doesn't have any close connections with one of these operators, are their chances slim-to-none of ever getting a gig flying long-haul in one of these birds?

The jobs are there. I have a friend that just left Andrews AFB and he pretty much had his choice of Gulfstream jobs. He interviewed at Chevron, the Venetian, UnitedHealth Group, the Mirage, EDS, and Eli Lilly.

Yeah, but I bet your friend flew VVIPs in GVs, BBJs or 747s for the Air Force. It helps to have that experience and that pedigree...

precisely. seems like, from everything I've seen, any job in the Gulfs/Globals wants prior experience in the bird. Hard to break-in.

there are ways to get into the "large" jets. it is a matter of patience and hard work. depending on your situation i can think of two ways right off the bat. find a part 135 operator that has a gulfstream in the inventory and work your way into it ..probably a few years or netjets has a flow through agreement now to eji....then once you have the experience ........

It's 100% about who you know......period. Quals won't get you hired over someone's son or nephew or something like that. If it comes down between a well qualified guy vs. a guy that has a deep connection, the connection will win out every time.

Sucks that it's gotten to be that way, but it's the truth. Quals don't mean squat. It's all about who you know.
